I have done this by participating in numerous volunteer services through my involvement with the X-Change service program, where I have served as a volunteer member, a site leader, and a board member in various service sites including, Lydia’s House which is a non-profit community resource for victims of domestic violence, The Boys and Girls Club, and Homework Club. I have also served as an Alternative Breaks site leader, where I led and educated students about HIV/AIDS, and later led them to explore the impacts of HIV/AIDS in the communities of Memphis, Tennessee. A few transformations and developments about me over summer or maybe even the last time I thought about how much I have changed. One social transformation I went through would be a change of views on how I see the world, second would be my interest and hobbies, doing and liking things that I wouldn’t particularly thought I would even like or do. Lastly one thing that hasn’t really changed would be the love I have for my dearest mother.…

The Leadership Challenge discusses “strengthen (ing) resilience” (pp 206). I am the kind of person who wants all of my ducks in a row so when one or two are out of line, I get flustered not to mention overwhelmed to the point wanting to quit. The past few years have been one of loss in various ways; my father’s passing, my beloved pet for nine years passing, my husband’s illness, the loss of our house as well as the loss of my husband’s and partner’s business. Even though we are still reeling with the impact of what we have been hit with, we continue to encourage one another emotionally to look ahead, not dwell on the past.…

There are multiple ways I am a leader within my community. The main way I lead my peers is through sports. I have been on my different teams; volleyball, basketball, track, and softball have all given me the opportunity to build my character and to lead by example. I was the volleyball team captain for my junior and senior year, so many of the younger girls were looking up to me. The best way to lead is by your actions; I would always go hard in practices and games to show the underclassmen that in order to get the best results, you need to give it your all.…

I would like to help homeless people have a nice place to stay. When I’m driving downtown I see a lot of homeless people on the streets; dirty, and sad.…

As a Veteran myself I actually embody this type of leadership approach Servant Leadership is the “team” approach. I wouldn’t ask anyone of my subordinates to do anything I wouldn’t do myself, no matter what service or section we are in we all have the same mission and that’s to help fellow Veterans in need. I receive my care at the VA and I’ve served in six (6) services from Telephone Operator to Administrative Officer so I have a full 360 degree view and assessment from Veteran receiving services to employee serving Veterans I think that gives me a unique insight to our operations. I emphasize streamlining workflow processes, and implementing the e-government initiatives, here is an example of that mindset.…

Throughout my adolescence and teenage years I would come across multiple opportunities to demonstrate a position of leadership, but I would be discouraged to do so. The reason for this is because during those years of my life I was fixated on other people’s strengths and less of mine own. Which influenced me to believe that I was neither a contributor nor a leader, so to speak. Triumphantly, this mindset of mine changed as I entered college and discovered a whole new identity of my self. This paper will discuss some of the strengths and behaviors that I possess, as well as interjecting the feedback from others in the survey process.…
