Personal Narrative: My Leadership Strengths

Improved Essays
My leadership strengths are the ability to motivate others into action, be calm in a crisis and diverse communication. For example, I realize not everyone communicates the same and the ability to recognize and adjust my style of communication to fit others is essential, particularly in a business setting. The same can be said about writing styles because it is a form of communication and everyone develops a different style. I do love to write on topics that interest me; however, academic writing is most challenging due to topics may not be interesting, maintaining a scholarly tone, and learning to write in APA Style which is like another language.

However, I take only partial credit because my training in the legal industry demanded I learn to dissect, synthesis, and use critical thinking in my legal writing. The attorneys I worked for were very supportive of my career because I started so young. They told me that I would have made a good attorney, was a decent writer, and great researcher but there is always room for improvement. My plan to become a better writer is to embrace all the feedback I can receive from better writers. I was glad the assessment results placed me in this course and look forward to seeing an improvement in my writing using the feedback and tips provided by this course. My goal is to teach on an academic level and will need to have the confidence and knowledge to be able to edit student’s assignments. I am using the SMART method strategy to assist me in keeping focused on the goal of writing improvement (Bovend’Eerdt, Botell, Wade, 2008). Additionally, I am utilizing all the resources Walden University has to offer such as the writing center, writing webinars, and reading some books on tips to become better writers. It has been useful for me in previous courses to print out my graded essay to review the professor’s feedback and use it as a reference during subsequent writing

With everyone’s strengths in mind, I became more confident in my plan. I grab the large blanket from the garage cabinet and pack everything I believe we will need for this long, never-ending journey. With the blanket full, I borrow several burlap sacks from our landscape company truck to finish the packing of tools and plants that last through the trip such as our rosemary bush, aloe vera plant, and the seeds from the fruits and vegetables from the garden. With the last burlap sack, I gently filled it as much I could with the ripe fruits and vegetables. The risk of a neighbor seeing me only increased my adrenaline rush.…

Being dependable is one of my strengths as I pride myself on making sure I am there for everyone whenever they need me.
