My leadership philosophy is to listen first. As a strong leader, I need to be able to hear my group and their needs. I need to take their comments and concerns and apply corrections to my leadership to adapt to my group's needs. If I cannot listen to my group, I will not be an effective leader. I also believe in being compassionate and leading by example; I can only expect from others as much as I put forth.

Before I started the leadership challenge, I would let my group members make all the decisions, I would do what they asked. My voice wasn't heard. Throughout the leadership challenge experience, I focused on improving my communication because it was my weakest competency. I started out small by starting to provide feedback on what my group members thought when we did a project. Slowly, I have started to insert my own ideas when in working in groups. I have even become the leader for one or two projects. For example, I was in charge of choreographing the last group project in my dance class. My group members looked at me to remember the steps and teach it to them. I have learned that my opinion matters to. I also worried about balancing between letting my voice be heard and when to let others take the lead. It has taken some trial and error, but I believe I have found that balance. I originally ranked effective communication at a 2, but I currently consider it a 6 or
