Until 8th grade, I was homeschooled, and for all of highschool, I have gone to St. Stephen’s Academy, a private classically accredited school. During my high school experience, my leadership has been a quality which has set me apart and formed me as a person. From my position during freshman year as a class representative to now, being the house council President, my leadership positions have truly influenced who I am today. Each year has improved on my leadership skills from the year before. During my freshman year, there were three students returning to our class and two new people. As MCs, we had an unwritten responsibility to provide some great entertainment as the former MCs have done. I came up with the idea of a lip sync battle, which was a great hit, and is now being pursued as an entire event for this upcoming year. Another thing which happened during this year was the implementation of a house system in which I was one of my house’s leaders. Along with two other seniors, I lead my house to become the first house champions, during which, we came in first place during every event during the entire year. This included competitions ranging from wisdom testing events such as our knowledge bowl to athletic events such as dodgeball. The dodgeball event was something the school had never done before, and I, being on the house council, was able to plan. In charge of this event, I delegated people to reserve the chosen destination for the game, order the dodgeballs, and get the message out to all of the parents. Along with delegation, I was in charge of planning how the competition would work, presenting the game to the students, and leading the event. As a junior, I started the lip sync battle which is currently growing, I started the dodgeball competition which, so far, has become annual, and lead my house to become the first house

My first experience working in a low income community was when I was a sophomore at Georgia State University. I was a member of a Post Readiness Educational Program (PREP). My role at PREP was to go to low income middle schools during the week and help seventh and eighth graders with homework and talk to them about how to prepare for high school and what they will need to do in order to succeed. When helping the students with their homework I realized how incredibly smart they were, yet they had so many outside influences that were a distraction. Some of these distractions included, but were not limited to, family problems, poverty, and issues with peers at school.…
