Personal Narrative: My Leadership Experience

Superior Essays
One of my leadership experiences would be mentoring young people to set a goal in life. Setting a goal to the young people I mentor, benefited themselves. These young people were in eighth grade and I taught them that in high school, you need to have a goal in their lives because they needed to look forward to something. The best part about mentoring these eighth graders were seeing their face expressions. Another leadership experience was leading my volleyball team to the championship round on our first year. We lost but, the feeling of bringing a team that never been to the playoffs or even made was the best feeling. The team was mad we lost but I told them, the accomplishments we had did that past year. There hasn’t been any disputes at …show more content…
Math influences me by my art work and different styles of career choices. Math has itself been described as an art motivated by beauty. Mathematics can be discerned in arts such as music, dance, painting, architecture, sculpture, and textiles. Math has directly influenced my art conceptual tools such as linear perspective, the analysis of symmetry and mathematical objects such as polyhedra. Magnus Wenninger creates colourful stellated polyhedra, originally as models for teaching. Math is as an art, stating that "the keys to mathematics are beauty and elegance and not dullness and technicality", and that beauty is the motivating force for mathematical research. People like like to use math problems to create my art style. Some of art paintings I have put out to help me solve my math equations. I currently taking pre calculus and looking forward to calculus honors, with the help of getting ahead already online. All of math classes I have taken, I aced them with As in both semesters of my school years. Math influences myself by being a truck driver in one of my career options because I need to know math in order to carry loads and finding certain angles on how to park my truck. Art and math are very similar by creating objects that have symmetries and surprising or pleasing shapes. There are other topics which will look at the interaction between mathematics and art in other cultures. …show more content…
Helped people paint and repair their homes and fixed their backyards. Volunteer to clean up trash around a neighborhood. Created a mural that depicts values for my community. I setted up an art exhibit at a local business, sell the creations, and use the money to fund a cause in your community. Collect supplies for persons who have been victims of a fire or other disaster.I planted a community garden on my end of the street. I helped the neighborhood kids with their homework and school projects. My neighbourhood friends and I go to help an older man once a week with his lawn. At my high school I never really helped out as much as I did because I didn’t have time. The only thing I did useful to my school was help painting the rock. We have a rock at the school that has been there since the school was made. Every year the students remodel it with new colors or a new logo on it or putting a quote. I was inspired to do this because I wanted to show my school I could do something useful to my school and I painted it with my class colors. This showed my school spirit to my classmates and inspired them as well to do something great to the school. I also helped paint over the graffiti on the school walls with the help of my friends. This had happened early in the morning and we started painting after school when all of us had time. I did more for my community

The Leadership Challenge discusses “strengthen (ing) resilience” (pp 206). I am the kind of person who wants all of my ducks in a row so when one or two are out of line, I get flustered not to mention overwhelmed to the point wanting to quit. The past few years have been one of loss in various ways; my father’s passing, my beloved pet for nine years passing, my husband’s illness, the loss of our house as well as the loss of my husband’s and partner’s business. Even though we are still reeling with the impact of what we have been hit with, we continue to encourage one another emotionally to look ahead, not dwell on the past.…

My most significant leadership experience would be when I was in the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I had been in the tennis team during my highschool years, for 2 years. During that time I learned a lot about being a leader, such as what it means to lead others, and what qualities a leader should have. When I first started playing tennis I started at the position on 2nd doubles, to me I took it as that I was not good enough to play against an opponent by myself on the court. Which was entirely true, because when I began playing I was not any good whatsoever.…

I was able to volunteer at a local bank that was sponsoring the Lake Park Elementary School for the holiday season. The school has over 300 underprivileged students between the ages of kindergarten and fifth grade. Most of the students at that school only have one meal per day. Along with other volunteers, I packaged bags that contained candy, toys, toiletries, a blanket, and a pair of athletic shoes. The bags were able to provide the children with goods that we often take for granted.…

Discuss a leadership experience you have had in any area of your life: school, work, athletics, family, church, community, etc. How and why did you become a leader in this area? How did this experience influence your goals? I was playing soccer with my friends in my neighborhood just a normal day everything looked as usual. My first leadership experience came from being a voluntary work as a life- and management skills trainer, where I had to deal with different background, minds and studies trainees, to be the leader of my own session, the thing that let me build my communication, discussion and presentation skills. During this period I have met so many people with various way of thinking, where I succeed dealing with them each time. After that I started working as assistant supervisor in a psychological support centre for the international medical corps, where I had the chance to deal with very professional and creative people, the hardest thing was being accepted as the youngest member of the team and to be known as a leader , but being in this atmosphere…

In order to raise money for prom this year, I accompanied the class of 2019, for 5.5 hours, to a west point game and worked in concessions. I had a great experience working with my peers to achieve a goal that would benefit the senior class. Recently I have engaged in service with my church, for 4 hours, helping to move furniture while they were switching locations. From this experience I learned that sacrificing my time for a communal effort may seem minuscule, but ultimately helps increase efficiency. Also I volunteered at the annual Easter egg hunt at memorial park last weekend for 3.5 hours.…

A concept that has always intrigued me is the beauty of mathematics. Three years ago I took a summer class in a camp at Yale University called “the Mathematics of Beauty” and since then I continue to delve deeper into that topic. This encompasses concepts such as the Fibonacci Sequence, the Golden Ratio, fractals, and curves. For example, for my IB Mathematics internal assessment paper last year I explored the Golden Ratio in architecture. I am also enrolled in the IB Visual Arts class at my school which always me to further express my…
