Being from two Hispanic families both Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian the Hispanic culture was imbedded in me at a very young age. All the celebrations, languages, and traditions were a huge part of me during the early stages of my childhood. My mother, being a single parent, wanted the best for me and wanted to see me grow and become something she never had the opportunity to be. Because of this she put me in private schooling in the small town of Hoboken. Being surrounded by mainly Hispanics and it’s culture while living in Jersey City I felt as though it would be the same in every town or school. Going to a school that was now primarily white I still expected things to be the same, for people to accept me and for everyone to get along. I had …show more content…
I knew I couldn’t run away from racism and although I love my high school I still face racism basically everyday. “Mow my lawn”, “Wetback”, my personal favorite “I can’t wait until Trump wins to send you back across the border”. The funny thing I find in all of this is I’m not even Mexican yet I get tagged in that group. I have nothing against I just ignored the ignorance that the other students the students I considered my brothers had against me. St. Peter’s Prep helped me in some way to believe in who I am no matter what people say. Even going through high school I faced racism and this time I didn’t think to change myself, but instead accepted it because I was happy the way I am. I stood up for myself and other minorities against the hate and look to do the same in the future. Going to college is another big step another way for me to stay who I am or change it to try and fit in again. Being in high school now I have learned how to be myself I have finally accepted and embraced my Hispanic heritage. By being myself I am a part of the Prep community as well as the cornerstone of my family. I learned at a young age that not everyone will accept you for who you are. As an older self I learned to not worry about what others think but about what I think and because of that have grown

Being the co-founder of a club is a challenge that can be overcomed with strong resilience skills and the desire to pursue a clear goal. When my partner and I were thinking about starting something new, we focused on things that we either cared about or enjoyed doing. Since we were both undocumented, I brought up the idea of creating a club that would unite students together regardless of their citizenship status. As a result, we created the Latinos United Club. In my mind I pictured a club that will balance educational and cultural support.…
