Personal Narrative: My Last Year Of Track

Improved Essays
It was going to be my last year of track in High school and I was ready to make it count. The first thing on my mind was to make a bigger track team since the year before the track team only consisted of five people. I started asking people if they were interested in doing track, but everybody would say no. Until I asked one of my friends and they said yes that they would do it. I felt accomplished as soon as that one person said yes, and the total number of people we got on the team was roughly eight. Of those eight people we got four new people. This year was going to be the year that my team and I would make it count. We would make our times faster and be more connected towards each other. I looked online to see what other athletes were …show more content…
I was going to do four events total to see where I was for this season. The events were shotput, 800 meter, triple jump and a relay. I did okay on my shotput it was better than what I threw last year. For triple jump and the relay race, I needed to work on those this year so I could be able to go to state. The first 800m of the season was the event I was the most focused on. Right before the race I felt all adrenalized and I was ready to get on the track. After running that race, I felt accomplished because it was a really good decent first time. When I heard about my time I began to think about how my time could actually get faster. The week after the track meet I started to get sick and my body was not taking the sickness good it would be hard to breathe and I would have no energy at all. During practice I wasn’t able to sprint as I wanted my legs to go. It was slowing me down a lot my times at other track meets were getting slower and slower. I was really getting really frustrated with myself, seeing my times drop and trying to do my best to get faster but not being able to. Regionals was only two weeks away and I was finally starting to get better. I could actually breathe through my lungs without coughing and feeling that nasty burn from the air when I would run. The meet two weeks before regionals was a very cold one. I remember having to camp under the bleachers just so we wouldn’t get rained and hailed on. In that track meet I was really excited because instead of running in ninety-degree weather. I was going to be running in the hail, I thought it was more exciting then running in a sunny day. I got second place at this cold meet, my time was a little bit slower than my first time meet. When regionals came along, it was two days long and my main event wasn’t until the last day. I had two to other running events before the 800m both were on the day before. This

I sprinted out of the “run out” section, and this is when I could feel the muscle fibers in my quadriceps contract. When I looked down at my legs, it resembled something out of a science fiction movie. There appeared to be something sticking out and moving around at the anterior of both quadriceps. The muscle fibers tightened in the same local area of both legs. It was extremely painful!…

He knew how upset I was about the previous day’s results, but he as well would not accept my thoughts of resignation from the team. After many words of encouragement he added, “No matter how fast you run, it’s going to hurt, so tune out the pain. Prove that you can do it, that you’re not scared.” All of a sudden, a fire inside of me wanted to do better, needed to do better, so I listened to his words. I decided to set a goals for myself.…

It was a reasonable schedule where I would relax on Sunday and Monday to not overstrain my body. I kept track of my progress through an app called “Runtastic” on my phone during my runs. My runs were usually in the evenings and I pushed myself to stay consistent with the schedule. The first…
