I filled out the form enthusiastically, ready to finally be able to drive without adult supervision. As I finish I hear my number being called, I walked over to the counter and handed the papers to the lady working there. I want to become a well rounded individual, someone who everyone likes and looks up too. I want to be someone my family can be proud of.…

People have different races in them but many people often choose to identify themselves with one main race they feel is theirs. Generally, people are classified into a race based on their skin color and their heritage. However, some people believe that we live in a world where your race does not affect the way people choose to think about you. In fact, this is so true that in a study done by the pew research center it was found that 21% of mixed-race adults have attempted to change the way others look at their race. Considering this, many stories have an interesting way of showing how others judgements tend to make people think about their race.…

In this essay, I’d like to talk about my experiences of being a half Greek and half Puerto Rican girl growing up in a hispanic neighborhood. Sure, I can discuss being a woman or how greatly my race and Greek culture have influenced my life, but I chose to write about the racial discrimination and prejudices I experienced in this specific area of my life because experiences like mine do not get recognized and are hardly ever talked about. They should. I chose this topic because I never get to voice what my experiences were like. The times I had voiced them, they were met with eye rolls from people who thought I was lying and labeled my experiences as fiction.…

Research has shown that our gender and race are two factors that heavily shape our lives. While many people in our society tend to ignore how these two factors play a role in their life, I will be further exploring how they have impacted my life personally. With that said I will incorporate how gender norms and gender socialization have shaped my life and identity as a woman, as well as how my race of being a white person has shaped my life chances and opportunities. Gender norms and socialization structured many aspects of my life and allowed myself to have the gender identity of a woman. As I was growing up there seemed to be many gender norms that I would tend to follow as a child that associated myself as identifying as a woman.…

Another source of my cultural identity comes from my religion. Growing up, every Sunday consisted of going to Sunday school and church, and Wednesday I would go to confirmation classes. Though I grew up with it, my faith and religion came more of a part of me a few years ago. While attending Northern State University, I got involved with people who no longer seemed to respect me. This is when I turned to my faith.…
