Personal Narrative: My Journey With Post-Secondary Education

Improved Essays
Starting my journey with post-secondary education in high school has allowed me to realize how important it is to continue with these classes after high school is done. These classes have been an essential stepping stool into helping me prepare for not only college, but also for the challenges that I will experience later on. With continuing on with these classes in college, I will be able to acquire my bachelor’s degree followed by a three-year Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, which will open doors and broaden my opportunities, that might otherwise not be possible. College will open my eyes to the world and show me the many different types of people, places, and opportunities that there are to experience. I expect college to prepare

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

At the moment what I really need to do is as simple as focusing on the here and now; I need to make sure that I continue to put hard work into everything I do. To start with, I need to maintain my grades, I’ve had a 4.0 grade point average since middle school and in order to get into a good college I need to maintain that. In addition, I also need to keep up with my extracurricular activities; by joining clubs, volunteering, and doing other activities outside of school, I’m able to create a solid resume for myself. Finally, I need to make sure to work to get scholarships, and other forms of financial aid to gain the support I would need to pay for college. My goals are a bit out of my reach at the moment, but I’m sure…

I sought out the advice of an adviser who I have been working with for the past three years.…

My life began to spiral downward before fifth grade began. I found myself an endless loop over summer vacation of waking up, experiencing the day as a blur, sleep, then repeat. This drove me to discover a new way to spend my day. On the television I noticed a recurring advertisement for a game called ‘World of Warcraft’. At first I instilled the mindset that I could spend my time pragmatically but eventually I succumbed to boredom.…

It was the end of third grade and all of my friends and I were talking about who we wanted as a teacher the next year. Everyone wanted Mrs. Graham or Mrs. Friend because they were considered the “nicer” teachers. I didn’t really care who I had as long as they didn’t yell very much because it always scared me when they did that. I was the kid who always got upset when I saw that the teachers were yelling or mad at someone. My mom had told me that she didn’t request any certain teacher for me to have so it was going to be a surprise the next year when I found out.…

“It can be a hard job to go for, but if you work hard enough, you can accomplish anything,” Angie Kramer admitted, when being interviewed about her job as a physical therapist. While talking with her on the phone, I was informed of the dedication it takes to become a physical therapist and what should be expected in college. Mrs. Kramer is one of the few physical therapist at the Prairie Du Chien Memorial Hospital in Prairie Du Chien, WI, with over ten years of experience. To be qualified for entry into the physical therapy program of UW-La Crosse, she mentioned that a student needs to have a 3.5 g.p.a. or higher, harder classes taken will help in the long run, and experience and/or clinical hours shows dedication to the program. With Angie,…
