Personal Narrative: My Journey To Texas

Improved Essays
I was born and raised in Houston, TX. Like most Texans I was proud of where I was from and never ventured out of the great state. One day I realized that there had to be more to life than the hustle and bustle of Houston. I wanted to leave and go to a place where I could stop and smell the roses; I wanted to start enjoy life. Without hesitation I pulled out a map, closed my eyes and pointed. Leaving Texas to move to Colorado taught me that homesickness doesn’t last forever, exploring new places is exciting and change is a part of life.
With a destination in mind I started looking for a place to live and a job. My best friend Shelby told me her sister bought a house in Fort Collins, CO and she was looking for a roommate. I couldn’t believe my

I was excited to be in a new area, I was frightened that I made the wrong decision to move and I missed my family and friends dearly; I was homesick and I knew it. I reminded myself daily that I only had to wait until I discovered the spots to love and allowed myself to feel at home in them. I began to explore Colorado and I instantly fell in love with everything the state had to offer and I felt at home.
I adapted to the Colorado lifestyle very well. The first place I ventured off to was the Rocky Mountain National Park and it was breath taking to say the least. Everything in the park was picture perfect and every moment was a photo opportunity. The background on my phone is still the first picture I took of Bear Lake surrounded by snow. Estes Park was naturally the next stop on my journey through the mountains. Every moment here in Colorado is exciting I can’t believe I’ve gone from a concrete city to a Mountain View town. Change is an inevitable part of life. It happens whether we’re ready or not. Moving away from Texas helped awaken my love for traveling and my curiosity about the world. I not only changed where I lived I also changed my outlook on life and my personality became a product of that. I love jumping on a plane and exploring new areas, I adore going on hikes and I cherish the new friends I’ve made along the

For the next five years I lived in White Plains, New York and living there was unique, in that owning a vehicle was obsolete. I was able to walk to the store, the park and to school. The ability to walk everywhere gave my the opportunity to build relationships with my whole community and to many, it may come as surprise that even with living in a big city most of the people living within it knew each other. Even though I come from a culturally distinct country and lived in the city that never sleeps I can only call Baltimore, Maryland my home. Living in Baltimore, has had a big impact on my life because it has shaped my identity and personality.…

A universal theme for me moving from Texas to California is overcoming. I was 8 years old when my family moved, and had to overcome knowing no one, a new school, and being out of my comfort zone. At this age you tend to start making good friends, all hang out in groups, and be less adventurous. My parents kept saying, “Find people who like the same things as you, and everything else will be easy”. The next week I did just that.…

“Better, indeed, for a man’s own good -- that he should sit down where he was born,” colorful poet, Joaquin Miller, advocates in his poem, Pace Implora. In this poem, Joaquin Miller highlights aspects of a simple life, that all establish routine, which he insists is the key to a better life. Nonetheless, staying in one place and keeping simplicity is not better than traveling the world for many reasons. First, leaving your hometown, gives you the opportunity to meet new people. Meeting new may push you out of your comfort zone and will open you to diversity.…

    Free Tuition Essay

I am not alone when I maintain college tuition, at a public institution has swollen to irrational levels. We can agree tuition has inflated to such an insane level, it leaves students with a debt equivalent to a homeowner’s loan after receiving an undergraduate degree with loans easily triple during the ensuing years. Free tuition is not the answer, however an overhaul of in-state versus out-of-state tuition rates, and how they are determined should be evaluated. There is no doubt this controversy materializes in other States, but I will focus on Kansas using my situation as a factual example of why this issue needs revision. I relocated to Kansas three years ago.…
