Personal Narrative: My Journey To Ohio State

Improved Essays
All my life, I have been destined to go to Ohio State. My parents met here. My dad proposed to my mother outside of Ohio Stadium. Every single one of my uncles went here. I was even born here in Columbus at Riverside Hospital. Nearly every single one of my baby pictures is of me wearing Ohio State clothes. I’ve always known I would end up in Columbus. Being an enormous Buckeye fan, my father had wanted to name me after an Ohio State football player. In the late 90s, Ohio State had a very good running back named Pepe Pearson. My father lobbied hard to my mother to name me after him. Mrs. Weadock refused to budge on the issue; she wanted to name me Andrew. They went back and forth on it for months, and then my mother had me three weeks prematurely. …show more content…
It took them hours for me to come into this world, and my mom was exhausted. Once I finally came out, she looked at my dad to fill out the birth certificate. He had the perfect opportunity to name me Pepe and have his way, but then he also probably thought about how rough it would be to sleep on the couch for a month. In the end, he put down Andrew Todd Weadock, so while he lost out on picking my first name, he at least got to use his name for my middle name. That is how I ended up being named Andrew, and not Pepe, Weadock. In my school back home, I was one of three Andrews in my grade. So, people just started calling me Weadock. Now, it has gotten to the point where everyone, outside of my family, calls me by my last name. It is almost like Andrew and Weadock are two different people. Andrew goes to class and studies and tries to be mature and responsible. Weadock does a bunch of stupid things with his friends and tries not to get caught messing around. In the end though, both are pretty cool

You would think after my grandpa being drafted to the Pittsburgh Pirates, a Major League baseball team, and my dad getting a full ride to the University of Denver their skill would have rubbed off on me, but you would be wrong. I wasn't terrible, I could hit a 90 mile per hour fastball and I could, for the most part, field a ground ball. However, I was definitely not about to be scouted by the college scouts.…

I couldn’t really get out of being named Ashlee either because it became my middle name. My mother chose to name me Kaitlyn because she thought it was a very uncommon name but little did she know that many other mothers had the same idea as she did around the same time I was born, give or take a couple years.
