When I was 9 years old my whole family, including my cousins, aunts, and uncles, went on a family reunion during the summer. Every year after school was out my mom, dad, my sister, and I would either go to India or my family from India would visit me here. This year my family from India came to visit us here, in America, and we decided to drive to Las Vegas. I know, driving to Las Vegas from Cupertino! We rented a big van and drove a long 10 hour drive to Las Vegas.

When we arrived there we were all very exhausted and tired after the long drive. We went to our hotel and chilled out for a bit. After a couple of hours it was starting to get dark. My whole family met in one room and decided to see the nightlife of Las Vegas and find a place to eat. I put on my jacket and we headed out. We were walking and there were many unique stores.

Every morning, I make a cup of café con leche and tune into channel 5’s jingle of Matt Goss’ “Lovely Las Vegas” at 5 am before I get ready to make my way Downtown — a modern piece of the desert amidst the heart of the valley. As I look up at the street after struggling to untangle my headphones on my way to the bus top, I encounter new faces and wonder where they are going. My destination is seeing the sunrise appear with the silhouette of the Stratosphere Casino on one side of the field and the Downtown skyline on the other as the bus drops me off on 7th Street to complete my long morning routine – only to repeat the same journey the next day. There are days in which I would like to skip out on my morning walks to catch up on a couple minutes…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

Two thousand five hundred eighty-seven. I could take an eight-hour flight or a casual thirty-seven-hour drive, but no matter what, I am still two thousand five hundred eighty-seven miles away from my home in New Haven, Connecticut. Being a college freshman, trying to juggle class, homework, projects, studying, sleeping, eating, and athletics; finding the travel time to go home is an almost impossible task. Add in the cost of the $600 flights round trip and there is no chance a student can go visit home when they feel a little homesick. I on the other hand had never even fathomed being homesick from the frozen tundra I called home.…

They were visiting Los Angeles and decided to hire a car to drive to Palm Springs and Las Vegas, and then back to Los Angeles. The conversation was terrific, and they both thought I had a fabulous attitude. They have a very relaxed, non-judgemental, and open-minded outlook that I expect from the French and German people, which put me at ease. I would have enjoyed spending more time talking with them, but it was now 11PM, and I had to leave soon due to my early start at work the following day. I informed them that I'm spending Thursday and Friday in Los Angeles for Thanksgiving in case they're back there by then, so we exchanged contact details.…

In this photograph, a young boy wearing a bubbly bright blue shirt shamelessly flashes a rather tooth lacking smile for the camera. His arms and legs are crossed while he sits on a tiled bench under an ominous and cloud speckled sky. Behind this young boy rests a little girl wearing a tomato red complexion. She is adorned with a shiny silver necklace and a shirt that literally screamed summer. Under her resting hand laid cold tiles that would leave an imprint of the frigid shapes that pressed against her soft skin.…
