That morning I woke up with my throat hurting and feeling sick knowing I had to ride in the car with 5 other people. When I say it was cramped, it was so freaking cramped! Me and my cousin Alex had to lie on the floor board while my other cousin AJ and my baby uncle got to sit in the back seat. My grandma and my grandpa were in the front seat. It was a long trip full of misery that I won’t soon forget even though there were a few highlights.

I was so uncomfortable lying on the floor boards, but I kept thinking Florida, Florida, Florida! We’d been driving for hours now when we finally stopped at a gas station to get gas and food. I got to stretch

Florida is a land of sun palm trees and sand. Florida being a southern state with sweet tea, Publix, and Disney just a few hours away, had many perks. I had never thought of what it might be like to grow up in a northern area, or just even outside of Florida. Up until my 14th summer I had always assumed everyone lived the same way I did. It had all started when I got accepted to a summer program in Washington D.C to attend a medical forum.…

To Be Continued “The 5:45 flight to Chicago, Illinois will begin boarding seats B15-30 in 5 minutes,” the flight secretary announced. I glanced around at everyone gathering their bags, unplugging laptops, wrapping up their food, and getting ready to board the plane. People were headed in all sorts of directions: work, going home, visiting families, or going to run the marathon. I was growing impatient, but at the same time, I wanted to stop everything and take in all of the sounds, smells, feelings, and everything else the bustling airport had to offer. Tale of a Dream When a fifth grader is asked what they want to be when they grow up, some reply with wanting to be a teacher or a doctor, but I was set on a something wetter, saltier, and smellier. I dreamt of becoming a dolphin trainer in sunny Florida, so while my family planned our spring break vacation to Orlando, Florida in 2011, I encouraged my parents to allow our family to spend a day at an aquatic theme park named Discovery Cove in order for me to get an experience with dolphins. I had high expectations, and I would never have guessed that a kidney shaped, ice-cold pool where I would swim and interact with a dolphin would be the location where my hopes of becoming a dolphin trainer would be crushed. I woke up in a citrus smelling room, in between my two sisters in a semi uncomfortable bed and exhausted from the flight the previous morning.…
