My journey to Concordia began at a show for Tyler Oakley in Kalamazoo Michigan. There my mom met a woman who had went and worked at Concordia Ann Arbor and mentioned that all the Concordias are awesome schools to go to. As they talked more about all of the things that Concordia Ann Arbor has to offer she said there was also one in Chicago. That is how I came to the discovery of Concordia University Chicago. I first visited Concordia Ann Arbor and fell in love with the campus. It is situated next to a river on a woodsy campus. Everything there was perfect besides the fact that they do not offer my major. I was very set on going to Ann Arbor but my mom pushed me to look into Chicago and I first was very skeptical of the campus because most

This was the year of 2016, and this was the year that my life changed; I was forced to grow up and learn how to be more independent. My Journey Some of the university of Dubuque alumni stories are very similar and some are very different to my story. Many stories involved kids going to segregated schools. I chose to attend Wor-Wic Community College because of the support system that Wor-Wic has to offer. I applied to the school and attended it while I was injured with a traumatic knee injury and the staff really proved to me that they cared. I had surgery the first week of classes,so I emailed my teacher and they were all understanding and extremely helpful in accommodating to my needs. The late computer lab hours really helped me to be able to get my school work done after my night classes ended. Everywhere that I go I advocate for Wor-Wic because it is truly more than an institution, it is like another family to me.…

The first college I did research on was the university of Florida which is also my number one choice for the college I want to go to. University of Florida or UF home of the gators located in Gainesville Florida was recently ranked number 14 of all the university’s in the country, it is very big in athletics, science and in the medical field. UF also has many opportunities such as jobs, honor programs in fact more than 3,400 UF students participate in these honor programs they also have many cultural and art opportunities. But many cons of UF is it is a very large campus which might not be good for certain people and also the area it is in has a high crime rate. The blacker the college, sweeter the knowledge. As kids, we see shows and movies such as A Different World and School Daze then imagine attending an HBCU being fun and adventurous. Not realizing and understanding the essence of having a place in the world where you can relate with people of different shades of melanin and personalities. The mission of an Historically Black College or University is to give blacks the opportunity of higher learning and allow them to graduate with multiple job lineups. From my perspective, an HBCU should make you feel more welcome than a PWI would, make you feel wanted and appreciated.…

    Why Go To Chicago

There are many reasons why I would like to go to the University of Chicago, but I’d like to start off with the academic aspect of the university. While not specifically a Liberal Arts college, it seems to me that “The Core” is very akin to a Liberal Arts curriculum in the sense that it forces you to expand yourself into different disciplines. I am a big believer in learning about everything because, as I have found, everything is interconnected. With “The Core” curriculum at the University of Chicago, that message of nondiscriminatory learning is clearly emphasized and I know that I will grow as both a person and a student in that kind of an environment. Once I complete “The Core” curriculum, I will be able to focus more on my major working with world-renown faculty solving the world’s problems one step at a time.…

The Reinvention of Concordia When choosing a college campus, prospectives students commonly look at what type of housing is offered, what there is to do on campus and if the food is of quality. The school commonly sells the campus by giving a personal tour to a future student. The guide makes sure to build up on the highlights of campus and not to tell about the real problems on a campus. Many students have made it to college and discovered they chose the wrong campus, then end up transferring after a semester or two. Concordia University Chicago needs to improve campus life by engaging students in more activities, creating new spaces for students to gather, and updating housing facilities in order to keep students from transferring elsewhere.…
