January of 2012, I was graduated from high school, and my real life was about to start. By “real life”, I meant an adult life, where I was obligated to either study or work to take care of myself. I was born in Colombia, but I moved to live to Panama in 2007. Panama provided to me and my family economic stability, it gave me the chance to meet people all over the world, and it gave us opportunities to grow that I consider we had not been able to get in Colombia. Among these opportunities, my parents gave me the choice to either study a second language in another country or study college in Colombia. It was a difficult decision to make because Colombia was known in Latin America for having high-quality universities, but one of my goals was to …show more content…
During this trip, I grew as a person as well, I was an introvert guy, who was so dependent of his parents, basically I was the type of guy who had to ask to their parents for everything, I could not solve my own problems, I needed help for everything. While being there, I had problems with my visa, which I had to solve it by myself. My personality changed as well, I became psychologically stronger, I was more independent. Besides of these aspects, one thing I liked about that trip was how the country was organized and how polite the people were; streets in Toronto were pretty clean, transportation system was efficient, they had high-quality education system. This last aspect made think about studying college there or coming back to Panama and starting at FSU Panama. The possibilities of staying there were high, and I was also applying for many universities there. I was also analyzing my financial possibilities there, and for that reason, I declined that option. I found out that FSU had this program where people from Panama were able to study two years in Panama and two years in Tallahassee, and if we maintained a GPA higher that 3, we could pay our tuition as we were

If you were to look in my room you’ll probably see a mess clothes all over the floor, papers on my bed, and tennis balls on my desk, you could say that I’m not the most organized person in the world. But upon looking at all that mess, there is a picture hanging on just one nail, collecting dust as if it was some kind of ancient artifact. As I look at it every morning before heading off to school I am instantly reminded of a trip that I now use to define who I am: commitment, compassion, and courage. This was the photo of my trip in Leon, Nicaragua.…

“Throwing Down The Gauntlet On My Life” I’m a junior at Presbyterian Pan American School. I was born in Brownsville, Texas, but since my parents are Mexican nationals, I grew up in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico. In 2013, my parents told me to “pack your bags” you are going to Kingsville, Texas. I came to Texas three years ago to attend Presbyterian Pan American School (PPAS), a senior private boarding school in Kingsville, Texas, on an academic scholarship. Talking about different aspects of my life is daunting, but it also allows me to come to terms with my growth as an individual by learning from my failures, confronting obstacles such as adapting to new surroundings, and a different educational system, speaking English properly, and adjusting to a real world working environment.…

I woke up on the cushioned beach chair, gazing across the seemingly endless magical, blue aura of the ocean. As far as I could see, glistening sand stretched across the water, as the magnificent, jagged rock structures that watched over the Pacific Ocean like birds over their prey. Just two hours outside of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, golf courses, resorts and beaches lined the entire peninsula. The luxurious resorts boasted private beaches and exclusive accommodations along the picturesque coastline of Peninsula Papagayo. Any accommodations you could possibly imagine would be provided immediately by the professionally trained wait staff.…

In Costa Rica, I was a foreigner for the first time in my life, and I learned that it is scary to be an outsider. I knew a limited amount of Spanish so I felt overwhelmed when I had to speak to any of the natives. I gained empathy for everyone who has the courage to visit another country. I learned that it is really important to find locals who are helpful and kind, since it is super easy to get lost in a foreign country, especially when you can’t read any of the signs. It felt empowering to be able to find my way through a country that was completely new to me.…

This March, my family and I took a trip to Mexico for vacation. We did many fun things down there such as; parasailing, went on a boat for a day trip, sail boating, went swimming in the ocean, buggy board, sand volleyball, swam in the pool, walked the beach at night, got henna tattoos, a dread in our hair and went to the club with my brother and Emerson. The sand on my feet, the crashing of the waves, people swimming in the ocean, the smell of sunscreen and the wonderful taste of my flamingo drink; Mexico is my kind of place to be. But the first day in particular sticks out to me the most, the day we went parasailing and sail boating. Waking up in the morning in your soft hotel comforter, gives you a great feeling.…
