Register to read the introduction… Then instantly a rainbow coloured portal opened so I stepped inside the portal.
On the other side there was my house the day my parents left. I found another computer this computer was a Mac book, and in bold purple letters it said ‘’ What do you need to change in this period of time’’ so I typed in my parents do not go to Afghanistan .Then the rainbow portal opened again and I walked back through the portal, I ran all the way home .My parents were there but they were not wearing their camouflage army uniform they were wearing an ugly orange and yellow uniform from KFC. My parents got fired when they didn’t go to Afghanistan .My house was dirty and disgusting it looked like a pig’s stein.
The only thing that was the same was my mom’s chestnut brown hair and my dad’s bald head. I ran as quickly as my legs could go, all the way back to the forest, the stupid computer was still there. On the cracked up screen it said ‘’If you want your parents to be in the army and not got to Afghanistan you must pass an obstacle course two kilometres

In this article, Saira Shah speaks extensively about being Afghan and living in Britain. She remembers helping her father cook many Afghan foods, and he would tell her stories about Afghanistan. He said that stories are not the same as experience, the stories are just facts, and explaining feelings. An experience is feeling what happens, a story can never replace an experience. Sometimes, when Saira and her father were in the kitchen, they tried to make their own meaningful experiences and plan trips to Afghanistan.…

In February of 2013, I was deployed to Parwan province in northern Afghanistan. My partner Travis and I were deployed in support of base defense operations, providing over-watch and long range rifle coverage for combat patrols in the villages surrounding Bagram Air Field. I began to experience a severe case of combat stress built up over four combat deployments between Iraq and Afghanistan. I went to the only place that made any sense to me, the base chapel.…

The day started the same as any other. The sun was hot, it must have been almost 100 degrees, which isn’t out of the ordinary for Brasil, but on this particular day the heat seemed as though if you threw an egg on the street it would fry right on the pavement. I took my usual route through Bento Rodrigues to get to work. Stopping at the corner store by the farm to get my favorite candy before going to work on the docks. I had stopped there every day for the past seven years before work, it was my routine.…

I am an American. I say it with the utmost pride and respect. Some citizens don’t stand when they hear, “The National Anthem” play, they don’t remove their hats, and sometimes they even talk over our song. They don’t feel great pride when they see The United States of America’s flag waving high in the air. Some Americans tend to think of being free, having personal rights, being allowed to speak up and many other rights as normal, but in other countries living in America and having the opportunities we have everyday is only a dream to them.…

After the Soviet Union invaded and occupied Afghanistan in 1979, 5 to 10 million Afghans fled in seek of refuge, mostly into Pakistan and Iran. Only 300,000 were able to gain citizenship in the United States. Today, Fremont, California, is home to the largest population of Afghan Americans and is where we sat down with a current teacher whose family fled Afghanistan seeking life in the US. Soraya Taheri is an English teacher, and is married to a prominent author, Amir, who was also a refugee from Afghanistan. We sat down with her and asked her about her life now, and how it compares to that of the country she left behind.…

I didn't realize how different I was until I joined the military. I grew up thinking that it was normal to wake up on Saturday mornings at four am so that we can get groceries from the church. That we ate beans and rice for nearly every meal of the day. That some nights we would get a call from our family in Mexico or El Salvador about something terrible that had happened to one of my cousins. It wasn't until I talked to others outside of my city that I understood that I was alone in some of my experience compared to the new friends I made from Vermont, Michigan, Illinois and plenty of other states.…

Army Story Believe it or not, before I joined the Army I didn’t want anything to do with pain, death or fear, I was scared of the world and I wanted to protect myself. The battle between our own states was a raging and bloody war for both the north and the south. Throughout the war the officers were often treated like royalty compared to that of the men that, I feel, did most of the hard work. The enlisted men did not get the same quality of goods as the officers and were forced to make good with what they got. I could not imagine sleeping in half of a tent or somehow having to find a way to join two halves together as you can see in the pictures shown at Camp Northumberland of the ninety-sixth infantry regiment. Razors, tooth brushes, and eating utensils were nothing compared to what they are today.…

I look out my tinted window to see camp, there was a cul-de-sac where the bus pulled into, and surrounding the circle was the housing buildings, all made up of wood. Don’t get me wrong we didn’t go actual camping there was bunk beds and a working bathroom. I was trying to guess which one I would be staying in, hoping it was the one closest to the pool. I get shook out of my day dreaming by being hit by bags as kids were rushing off the bus, I wasn’t as eager. I finally step off the bus, and as I do the camp workers all had made a tunnel, clapping and high fiving us as we ran down the human path.…
