I consider myself very lucky for having had the opportunity to experience an integrated education. Since I was 8 months old I have been in some sort of educational institution. When I was almost four years old I started private school in Bogotá, where I not only learned general knowledge but things that can only be acquired through experience. It is well known that a child’s first five years are very important for the development of his brain. In these five years, children learn skills and social abilities, which will determine their health and life as adults. This is a great example of the how humans can learn without textbooks, since at this age we do not know how to read, yet we still learn. As Albert Einstein once said: “It is not so very important for a person to learn facts. For that he does not really need a college. He can learn them from books. The value of an education in a liberal arts college is not the learning of many facts but the training of the mind to think something that cannot be learned from textbooks”. I could not agree more with Einstein when he says some things cannot be learned from textbooks; frankly there are more things that can be learned without them, than those that can be learned from them. Do not get me wrong, knowledge is very important and enlightens your mind in remarkable ways, however there are more important things in life than learning facts. My school allowed me to be a complete and intelligent individual in all aspects and they did not achieved this only through textbooks but through experiences.
