Back when I was about the age of five, racing through the soccer field. I receive a pass from my teammate. I discover an open space for a shot. I enter the space, shoot, and miss. I remember, to this very day, the rage I had inside me. Half-time had come. My father came to the sidelines to encourage me to not give up. I remember, exactly, what he said. “Son, you can not give up. You see all those players on the other team? Well, they are nothing. If you put your mind to it, you can shoot and make that goal!” I took what he said and pinned it to the front of my frontal lobe. I received another pass from the same teammate. Recently, I was invited to a College ID Camp in Sunnyvale, California. The email I received stated that many college coaches were attending the College ID Camp. After I registered for the College ID Camp, I started training for the upcoming event. During my two weeks of training, I would be working on a drill where I would want to give up; but, I would say in my head, “I can do it if I put my mind to it.” I conquered multiple drills where I would want to give up. The College ID Camp, had come at last. Before I entered the field, I repeated in my mind, “Put my mind to it, I can make it out of my city.” I can tell you that my training, and hard work paid off when I put my mind to it. A week later, I received an email from the UC Davis Soccer Head Coach saying that they will be keeping an “eye” on me; and so they did. I got a visit from the Assistant Head Coach. Basically explaining that I need certain grades, and to keep training hard to be able to join their men’s soccer team. After, the coach left, I told my father, “You were right! I can do anything if I put my mind to it!” To this day, I believe in the power of conquering anything if you put your mind to it. If you feel like giving up, or run into an obstacle, just remember that you can conquer anything if you put your mind to

It all started in senior year of high school, a moment where, because of my lack of effort at certain times of my teenage life, I was left with very few options regarding where I could go pursue my education after graduating high school. It is important to emphasize that although I wasn’t sure what exactly I was capable of, I was sure that I was capable of great things and high school failed to inspire me to become the best person I could be. I was disoriented yet self-assured. Luckily, thanks to some thoughtful people who guided me in the right moment, I was able to get in to the Macklin Business Institute at Montgomery College and I was given the opportunity to try out and get recruited to play for MC soccer team. The experiences that followed…
