Neatly and efficiently, I finish writing notes as the class ends.Trying not to have frantic, scribbled writing is key in this situation, as these notes are not for me. “Where in this bag do you want these Jake?” I ask. “Just grab my binder and place them in the front pouch” He replies. Jake is a student that I scribe for. He is in a wheelchair and needs assistance in class, but that does not describe him to be any different from his colleagues.
While walking to his next class, I observe a variety of individuals. Students who are interested in athletics, others that are absorbed in the arts, as well as some who are amply studious. Among these, I recognize reflections of myself and my personal interests. After receiving a call back for an interview, I decided to seize the chance for a new experience during my senior year. Now, I join Jake and other students in an assortment of different classes as an assistant. Additionally, this is an opportunity for me to absorb the information the teacher provides and learn a new topic without an expense. Sitting in class to assist an individual has pushed me to increase my communication skills, and not be shy conversing with new people. Overall, I have become abundantly involved with my school, and I enjoy it.
