Personal Narrative: My Involvement With Softball

People decide their callings at different times. I, on the other hand, bounced around between many different occupations. When I began my freshman year of highschool, I started my involvement with many activities. All of the activities I pursued made me realize which ones I enjoyed, and which ones I thought I would like, but ended up not. My involvement and efforts in a diverse range of activities makes the road of success easier.
My involvement with softball affects many parts of my life. Playing since I was in tee-ball, I certainly learned dedication at a young age. While most of my friends could relax after school, my schedule made it mandatory to stay out until ten at night going to and from practice on a day-to-day basis. I quickly learned time management, like taking advantage of long bus rides to do homework and study. Adapting these characteristics provides a stable foundation for my academic accomplishments.

On lots of occasions, softball interferes with social events. Although missing social events used to frustrate me, now I have adapted to it. I have learned that everyone has priorities; the important factor is choosing these priorities wisely. Along with spending lots of time on the field with my friends and teammates, I also spend lots of down time with them. In the beginning of my freshman year of high school, I found myself to be very shy and quiet. Once I opened myself up to them, I related to them and we played stronger than before. There was more trust for the pitcher, also. Now that she knows she has a defense that will back her up, she became more confident in her game, too. Even though I’ve been going to the same school with the same people since 5th grade, softball was the reason why we bonded better than

There is something so unexplanatory about the game of softball. The way you can almost immediately smell the freshly cut grass. The way the leather of your glove perfectly matches your hand. My dad, uncle, aunt, and a couple of family friends did softball at Alpha Park once a week in the afternoon. My cousin, Jordan, would always be there. During the games, we would play “house” or “the invisible game” or we would simply walk around wanting to pet all the dogs. On some occasions, although rare, my cousin, Brandon, would take Jordan and I to the playground equipment. On this day, Jordan and I were probably playing one of our usual games.…

Art and softball as always been huge aspects in my life. Art has always been a way to express myself in a way many do not normally see. Although I normally draw, I do know how to paint and build clay into creative forms most believe are impossible, or at the very least, hard to create. In one of my drawing classes, we were to create a colored portrait of an orphan in another country. I was so happy to be a part of that experience and later the next year got to see a picture of the little boy receiving his picture.…

My senior year of softball was ending; towards the end of the season nominations for homecoming court were due. Out of the four seniors my team nominated me with a football boy to represent softball. The pep rally assembly is a time to showcase a special handshake and to practice for homecoming court in front of the student body. We spent many hours practicing our handshake. In the handshake was a mock lightsaber battle, me standing on top of him as if he was a surfboard, leapfrogging off one another, and pretending to slap him in the face.…

My dad has always told me to never give up! By him doing that, I have learned so much as in knowing how to talk to other people, treating people with respect, but most importantly to me is how to play softball. I have learned so much from my dad about softball mainly because he would stay on me about it and never let me turn my head on the task he was trying to teach me. We would go to the ball fields and practice, practice, and practice. I would start getting aggravated at him cause it seems as if we would be there all day at times, but come to find out he only done it to make me better.…

Softball. According to the dictionary, softball is a modified form of baseball played on a smaller field with a larger ball, seven rather than nine innings, and underarm pitching. But to me it is more than just a modified version of baseball, to me it is more than just a game. It's not about the pitching style or the smaller field or the number of innings. I have grown up playing the game and it has made me tougher.…

Through all of my struggles I worked to stay positive and cheer on my team no matter what the outcome and whether things went my way or not. I showed leadership to my fellow teammates in the way I worked from the bottom, and even though I was a freshman I pushed others to work harder also. Softball is now my favorite sport and I continue to put tremendous amounts of work into it.…
