Personal Narrative: My Involvement In High School

Improved Essays
Throughout my duration in high school, I have made a massive effort to be involved in any way possible. I have been a part of the Freshmen, Junior Varsity, and Varsity Cheerleading squads, which have helped organize many different community events such as pep rallies, parades, and car washes. I have also been involved in Kiwanis Club International, Interact Club, and Blue Eagle Ambassadors, which sponsor activities around the community including promoting reading in elementary schools and highway cleanups. I am very involved in the arts in my school and am a part of my school's Concert Choir and Theatre Troop, which perform once every fall and spring. I am also in an all-girls choir referred to as Nightingales, as well as Nazareth’s award-winning, …show more content…
This year I have been selected to be a member of the Youth Bach Motet group sponsored by the Bach Choir of Bethlehem. Outside of school I currently have a job at Red Robin as a hostess and To-Go specialist. As a hostess, I am in charge of maintaining the cleanliness of the main entrance, seating and greeting guests, and prioritizing seating according to the seating chart. As a To-Go specialist, I need to completely memorize the menu, take orders, check accuracy of and package food, and deliver it to customer’s cars. This job has allowed me to expand on my people skills, improve on money management skills, as well as gain real job experience that I can use in the future. Once I turn 18, I will have the opportunity to cross train to be a server, which will be a more challenging job and most likely very rewarding. I am not affiliated with any specific religion or political group because almost every group has some type of valid argument that has solid evidence. I do, however, absolutely refer to myself as a feminist. This is because it is one of the few things that makes no sense to argue

Looking back on it, on how I got to where I am. I don't know how i did it, when you run into something ,with the power to knock you down- you get back up! I've considered myself a sort of mellow guy, but I can be very intense. It's funny because you can't tell by looking at me. Most people say they can't read me, but I think i am a fairly simple guy.…

Before addressing why Pitt is a good choice for me, I would like to review why I am a good choice for Pitt. The University of Pittsburgh values their “talented, diverse and high achieving students”, their “safe and healthy campuses”, their unique balance of “fun and camaraderie with internships and other learning opportunities outside the classroom”, and their focus on “developing students into global citizens” (University of Pittsburgh webpage, ‘Prospective Students’). I am a well-rounded student who places priority upon academics, as well as a broad array of performing arts extracurricular activities, over 300 hours of community service, several job experiences and religious organizations. Therefore, if admitted to The University of Pittsburgh, I would fit right in with the ardent and accomplished student body, just as I would benefit as a person and as…

Before high school, I always thought I was an average student, but when I transitioned into high school, people started to point out that I had potential. I began to work harder than I had ever before and I began to accelerate in every course. This never took a toll on me till the tenth grade, when my mental health started degrading. Anxiety was my first foe. During the beginning of the tenth grade, I had set high expectations for myself and it began to affect my life greatly For instance, after finishing the test, I would think about just one specific question that I thought I completed wrong.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

The rest of the year was great to me, I finally saw the rainbow. I gained many new friends and I was/am doing fairly well in my classes. I overcame an obstacle of mine that was really large, and I am proud of myself for doing so. I finally got to see what it looks like when the clouds part. I went from being a stress mess to a straight success (maybe not success yet, but soon).…

Track and field has been the highlight of my high school life. The social aspect, the large assortment of events from which to choose, and the people I met are things I will always treasure. I especially loved the fact that there was always a place for everyone. If you weren’t too quick, then discus was your event. If you could build up quick bursts of speed, long and triple jumps suited you.…

Though I am not even half way through my high school career, I feel as if I can still be a help to those who are just beginning. High school is probably the most important part of your life that you are responsible for in our teenage years, so it is important not to mess it up. There are a few concepts that I have figured out by myself that I wished someone would have told me. Those of which include never procrastinate, think about your future, learn how to manage your time, and do not settle for less than your best. My first recommendation is that you don’t procrastinate.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

I remember my days in high school like it was yesterday. My freshman year I didn’t really know anyone at my school because I was new to the area. Once the school year got started I began to make friends and to be known around the school. So as most people say now I look like a basketball player, back in my younger days I used to play all sports like basketball, football, and baseball. So I had decided to try out for the basketball team.…

While attending the College of Coastal Georgia I have worked very hard to balance my time between class, school, work and extracurricular activities. My first year at the college I was a Freshman Senator in the student Government Association, a member of the Seaswell’s Literary Magazine, and a member of the Urban Gaming club. I’ve always tried to be involved in volunteer services in the community, so I continued to help out with the Satilla River Clean-up, which I had done throughout high school as well. I also volunteered for, and continue to each year, the Jekyll Island Beach clean-up and the Brantley County Relay for Life. I was a member of the Center of Academic Success, and through the program visited Sapelo Island’s Gullah festival and…

My involvement in school ranges from volunteering at the Bridge Minstry, Non-Food Trick-or-Treat, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, Student Government Association, amongst other services to working as an Academic Success Coach for freshman students who did entirely do well for their first semester in regards to grades. Moreover, my reason for pursing a career in nursing is mainly due to my father in consideration that he has metabolic syndrome, diabetes and heart disease. Because I grew up with my father having to go through open heart surgery, monthly doctor apponitment, as well as constantly taking medications, I knew that I wanted to enter a healthcare profession where I could better understand my father's condition as well as promote…

My unique high school experience has made me who I am today in the way it has molded me into a greater leader and student than I ever imagined I could be. Upon my entrance into high school I really had no clue who I was as a person and the amount of potential I had. I hardly knew anyone but my peers and teachers were so supportive and helpful it was almost hard to not prosper; I was able to learn how to convey my ideas within group settings in order to set plans in motion, and make the school a better place. I learned how to handle stress from classes, clubs, and work all while maintaining excellent grades and test scores and I believe these things have helped me learn that nothing is impossible and hard work seriously pays off. If I had not…
