A couple years ago I had the pleasure to help walk a former patient across the gym to receive his high school diploma. He received a standing ovation from a crowed gymnasium and I watched tears stream down his mother’s face as she watched her son accept his diploma and shake hands with the superintendent. It’s a memory I treasure to this day. I feel honored I was asked to be a part of this young man’s dream and forever grateful that I could experience the amount of love shown on that gym floor. On days that life becomes too hard or I start to question if this is truly what I am meant to do with my life, I reflect on that day.…
As I walk into the gym my senses go wild. There’s many smells of sweat, weird smelling perfumes, and colognes. I finally spotted Coach Ed after scanning the whole gym for 2 minutes. He was standing by the bleachers at the far end, watching the kids like a 6’4 tall hawk. While I was walking towards him he began to laugh because I almost tripped over a cone while walking to him.…
People coming from a different planet would think every day things we do in life are weird. What we have adapted to and think are normal look very weird to others who haven’t seen people doing things like this. Such as someone who has never shaved before would think that is very odd to shave your beard. Or someone who has never seen a drive threw would think it’s weird to have people have food handed out the window. As we think other cultures are weird we have to look at the fact that our culture is weird to others People that have never seen basketball would thing it is a bunch of people running around with a ball.…
For my high school coach I interviewed Tony Stennett who works as our S.i.d along with being an Assistant coach on the Men’s basketball team. He has also worked as a freshman coach on a high school team. We talked about the difference between coaching in high school and then college, we also discussed his philosophy along with other challenges that faces coaches along with many other things that coaches have to deal with. The first topic we discussed was what he thought was his biggest challenge in coaching we said that it was getting through to all athletes because every player is different and has different Ways that they can be reached.…
The health career I choose was an athletic trainer. The reason I choose this career is because I play sports and I would love to when i'm older be either playing a sport or teaching people how to play a sport or do something that has to do with a sport and if being an athletic trainer is the right thing for me I would love to be one. The typical responsibilities of a athletic trainer is to, Provide 1st aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning. The athletic trainer will also be responsible for making appropriate physician referral. Students who want to become certified athletic trainers must earn a degree from an accredited athletic training curriculum.…
Mentor, is a kind of authority. Very rarely is an authority in every respect. There is also a difference between the professional mentor and moral mentor. It would be wonderful if these aspects went hand in hand, but this is rare.…
It would bring me great joy if I were hired as the Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside! Reading through the duties and responsibilities, I believe that I would excel in this position. Looking to expand my career in college athletics, this position would provide the best opportunity for expansion. While compliance is currently my primary responsibility, the requirements of working at the NCAA Division II level have afforded opportunities to gain invaluable experience in other areas. As part of my duties, I have managed $1.3 - $2.0 million in athletic aid.…
The Coach That Started It All Jeff wagner coach, father, family man. My first year of football he showed me the ropes. He worked with me knowing i was out of shape and had never played before. Outside of my academic activities, I have a strong passion for sports and exercise. As a student-athlete for over 14 years, I have learned the value of hard-work, dedication, and determination. Establishing these invaluable attributes early on made it possible for me to become an NCAA Division III lacrosse athlete. Sports dramatically shaped the person I am today and taught me how to step to work in unison with my teammates to achieve a common goal and simultaneously step up as a leader.…
Hi, my name is Quinton Howard and I am an athletic trainer for the Detroit Lions I earn 35,000-75,000 per year, to get here you need to work hard, go to college and earn the minimum of a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree, it could take you up to 4 years to complete. At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

As a student athlete who moved multiple times, I built many relationships with my teachers and coaches. I will always remember the teachers and coaches that had a positive impact on my life, whether it was in second grade or my senior year of high school. When I entered college, I contemplated majoring in Education and going straight into teaching because it was of serious interest to me. However, I chose to go another route with my major. After working for a few years in another field, I decided that it was time to strive for a profession that enthused me.…
