Personal Narrative: My Interview With Claudia Kim

Improved Essays
I have interviewed Claudia Kim from Texas Children’s Hospital who is a registered nurse in NICU. She attended Baylor initially as a dance major. Soon after realizing she wanted to have kids and needed to buckle down, she laid down her options knowing she wanted to do something to help people. She returned home and attended San Jacinto Community College and later graduated from UT Health. She explained how in community college it was a bunch of paperwork and pre requisites but at UT Health it was mostly clinicals and tests to prepare her to be a fully qualified nurse. She has never regretted changing her journey since.
There is a lot of training involved before working in a NICU or in any health care profession, in her case Claudia had to have

She was employed as a staff nurse until 2012, when she was injured on the job and had to receive corrective surgery. After she recovered, she was offered her current job as an Administrative Nurse. The most enjoyable part of her job is the patient contact- seeing patients get better. I really appreciate Cathy Small’s appreciation and respect for the Tongan people and culture. Our family like so many immigrants have a great story and journey to America. My relationship with Cathy I would say is professional in nature. As an Anthropologist she tries to remain objective. Her approach to her study takes Humanistic approach to anthropology, as Ivan Brady suggests, “must be creative, eager to search everywhere and to account for the greatest array of happenings, and willing to reach out to alternate narrative forms.…

The biggest one of all is my mother’s last pregnancy. Towards the end of her third trimester, she started having difficulties especially with her blood pressure. I remember being with her in the hospital and watching as a doctor and a couple of nurses fluttered in and out of her room.…

I was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas; my environment shaped me to become someone responsible, an over achiever, and a determined young man. The people who had the biggest impact on me is the woman who gave me life, my father, and my community. My mother was already there for me even before I stared walking, she was there to comfort me when I fell on my knees. She was my first teacher, the one who taught me morals and set up my standards; whenever we had a family party and all of our thirty members were together, she will make me introduce and address myself to every single one and if ever forgot to say hi to someone she will just give me a look to make realize my mistake, and I will immediately go on to that person and say sorry for…

I knew I wanted to become a registered nurse, but I was not sure about the schools to apply. I started off at a community college. If I could go back in time, I would have taken the SAT test and applied at a four-year university to get my BSN. If I were to take that step, I would have probably graduated with my BSN degree this year. During the first couple of years in college, I was contemplating on whether to get an associate degree or bachelor degree in nursing.…
