The person that I interviewed was a lady that I met at my doctor’s office that is from Pakistan. Her name is Raja Bhakta and she was born in Punjab, Pakistan and migrated to the U.S when she was very young. The doctor ‘s office that I currently go to is called Singh Medical Clinic and my doctor is from Pakistan as well. Most of the people that go to this particular doctor are from India and the women where those dresses and a scarf on their heads. Raja Bhakta is 57 years old and speaks Punjabi her English is a little difficult to understand. As I was sitting in the waiting room filled with people wearing the same beautiful clothing and speaking a language that I did not understand I decided to ask Raja Bhakta, she was sitting next to me, if …show more content…
I could relate to her because I was also an English Language Learner even though I came to America at a younger age that she did. It is difficult for an ELL student to feel comfortable in a setting where everything is so foreign and you do not understand. That is kind of how I felt when I was doing the interview but I learned to be positive and get out of my comfort zone. There are many barriers that an ELL student can have that the teacher must pay attention to so that the student can be helped. First of all, they are new to the country, school, and people so having them feel comfortable and speak to them as much as possible is important. I believe that I learned English from hearing it every day at school. Having students repeat words and try to have conversations without correcting them immediately if they make a mistake is imperative. When someone says “No” that is not how you say it or make fun of you because you said something the wrong way, it can shut a student down and not try to speak the new language because they are embarrassed by being laughed at or scolded. These are many of the similarities that I found to have with Raja and I was really …show more content…
I am glad I had this experience because I would have never done it on my own and would not have learned so much about Raja’s life and culture that I found so amazing. It is astonishing how you can relate to someone so much without even knowing and that is why one should not judge other people because we are all so similar in many aspects. In education teachers and staff should have knowledge of this aspect and try to help those students that need help because they feel out of place. It is imperative for students learning that we understand them and understand where they come

I have interviewed two individuals, who came to the U.S. from other countries. The first person is Anzhelika or I. I moved to the America from Ukraine a few years ago. When I first came here, I did not feel confident in myself. My English was not good enough, as I thought, to use it for communication with other people. Even though, I liked almost everything about the United States.…

This week was fun for me because I made the soccer team and we had a fun week of practices. We had much less homework this week than the previous week which was very fortunate because my brother and I had their grade’s curriculum nights so I was not getting home until eight thirty. There were three quizzes/tests this week which was a little rough but I think I got through them well. I thought that the Socratic seminar in LA was a little bit of a dud because…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

Everyone has their own kind of sacrifices for better or worse. Sometimes we offer these sacrifices as a means to provide protection or some ray of hope. Tutors are known to be educated in whatever subject they tutor in as well as being extremely patient. Though some do it for free or may charge a fee, it always comes down to how much effort they put into each session and ultimately the result. I remember a particular event during sophomore year of high school, I offered to tutor a young freshman girl named Misha.…

Being given the opportunity to interview an individual and ask questions that reveal their personal attachments to their cultural identity, I knew the perfect person to select. Having the privilege of working within a very diverse Jr. high school in the local school district has allowed me to work alongside many well educated professionals who are also very diverse, and offer themselves on a deeper level to the students they assist. For my interview I chose an educator who I encounter on a daily basis in the Special Education Department. Maureen Ieta has worked for the school district for 25years. Maureen is an individual that I feel puts all of her heart and soul into the students she comes in contact with and before long a nurturing connection…

When I get to my AP Language class I look around the classroom that has a homey feel to it. Curtains drape over the cold foggy windows in royal red, rimmed with gold shimmering colors. A lamp is turned on, creating a soft glow in the room while the warm smell of pumpkin pie is enough to make it hell for a sleep deprived person to stay awake. I walk to the back of the classroom, and sit exactly in the middle. Then I put my head down, and wait for class to start.…

She gazed our documents carefully and asked us about sponsor person’s information and showed her any proof of our relationship with sponsor. Before interviewing, I hoped that I would not deal with a scowl on the officer’s face, but the lady I met was so severe. After fifteen minutes asking, she wrote something on our document. While she was writing, I noticed the pink paper and green paper on her right hand side, but which one we would be received. My heart seemed to stop beating when she held both color papers.…
