I have learned so much from doing this interview with Mrs. Nikki. By her explaining what her job means to her and what she does on a daily basis has changed my mind so much about wanting to switch my major. We have a lot in common we both love working with kids and we both love the fact that we can change someones life around and make then a better person just by doing our job. I feel that if I stay with my major I would really enjoy it and be satisfied with my job. Talking to someone in the field that you're studying definitely can help make up your mind on many different things. As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

When I first learned of this assignment my first thought was to interview my mom. She is the one person in my life I am closest to. Since we are only twenty three years apart, I thought it would be best to focus on her life up to the point where she decided to have kids. Though I knew most of what she told me it was still nice to just sit and talk about her life experiences. My mother was born to older parents and was the youngest of three children.…

In social work the narrative of the social worker is a critical piece that will be utilized throughout the many interactions they have with client as well as the various agencies they work with. In the realm of social work the narrative will serve as a norm, telling the lives of others in a manner that portrays the realities of the clients. Scott Janssen, the author of this week’s reading makes this clear as he points out, “Most social workers find themselves serving as narrators of the stories of those who are struggling and afraid, people whose defenses are activated as they try to make sense of realities that may feel overwhelming.” Though this only touches on a small piece of the numerous roles that the narration plays in social work, it does exemplify that the narration will serve as a critical piece in accurately portraying the realities of those in need. Portraying the client’s realities in…

I decided to interview my mom for this paper because she has had a significant role in my upbringing and she means a lot to me. Since my mom and I are very close, like best friend status, I already knew a lot about her which made the interviewing process much easier. My mom and I share a lot of the same views on many issues but have differing views on a few, especially under the diversity category. I live at home with my mom and father and so I see my mom everyday which is one reason why our viewpoints are similar, so we can both avoid cognitive dissonance and it makes the day to day living more manageable.…
