A. I started out as an LPN, before later returning for my RN. A local nursing home in my area hired me right out of school. The DON that hired me later looked to as a mentor. I was dependable, hardworking, and task-oriented at the job. I was an employee for the company for about six and half years. While employed there for six years, I had seen a lot. I had seen nurses come and go. A nurse that works the weekends; she came and decided what she would do for that day if she did anything. It seems as though the weekend nurse and my DON were good friends. Things that were occurring at work did not seem fair. I approach my DON and ask could I set up a time so we could talk. Further, explain to her about the weekend nears, how she arrived at work and decided what she wanted to do if she did anything that day. I explain it did seem fair; we were short, overworked, and tired. It seems as though she could be of some help to me and the other nurses. She began stating in a louder tone than the weekend nurse supervise, she made sure things ran smoothly. I then corrected her and explain that the individual nurses supervise their areas did and the weekend nurse did absolutely nothing. The DON quickly cut the conversation short, stating she would take my concerns into consideration and dismiss me from the office. After the conversation, I was experiencing so many emotions; disbelief, upset, angry, and hurt because she was a leader and someone I look up to. I continued working there, despite my first feelings and to see if any changes would be made. There were no changes. Later I turn in my resignation; I viewed DON in a whole other way.
