Personal Narrative: My Internship With Pro Act

Decent Essays
One of my personal goals that I plan to achieve before finishing my internship with Pro-Act is to participate in facilitating a group. One of the things that hindered me in jumping in is the misunderstanding of being able to relate. I was under the impression, that it is better if you have a relatable connection with the members to be able to run the group. I’m learning that is not always the case but, it is helpful. Since, I have set this goal. I have sat in several groups and I plan to attend the next group facilitator training session; (that Pro-Act offers) so that I will be able to fulfil my goal before the end of the term. I still have some hesitations about running a group but, I plan to co-facilitate first to get my feet wet before

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

My job as a Resident Advisor is to create an environment that is welcoming to all of my residents. This task is both exciting and daunting since one can have a floor made up of residents coming from all over the country, representing different backgrounds and socioeconomic upbringings. To build this environment you must get to know the residents and develop a true understanding of the background and diversity they bring to the floor. One of the moments that stuck out to me while trying to build this environment came from a conversation about Indian dance and the Punjabi culture. I was with a resident checking to see how she was adjusting to being away from home when she told how she found her fit on this team called Buckeye Bhangra.…

Move-in day was the highlight of my college career. As a freshman, I was preparing for a new term and feeling the eagerness for a new beginning. The transition from a traditional-styled home, to a communal dormitory space, is the start of one’s direction to adulthood and independence. Presiding in the learning community of Alvarez Hall forged me into the person I am today. Encountering a mixture of individuals with different sets of personalities and beliefs, allowed me to appreciate the culture and diversity the housing provides in order to cultivate the young minds of the future generation.…

I'm going to write about my experience at job corps so far. The first day I came to Job Corps was really different. As I walked into the small building, that in fact looked very enormous at the time, I began to anticipate every answer I would give to the person who interviewed me, so that to them, I would at least seem prepared. Although I had practiced my interviewing skills that very morning, I felt anxious and worried. Not knowing what to expect, many different scenarios ran through my mind, all of which weren't making my situation any better. Questions after questions were asked, all which seemed impossible for me to answer, and I felt as though I blew the whole thing. After the interview, many days passed by, and I had convinced myself that I did not get job.…
