Personal Narrative: My Internship With Caris Healthcare

When Mrs. Calley first came into class to talk to us about Caris Healthcare, I had never heard of Hospice Care before. However, I loved the idea of being able to help give a terminally ill patient the most peaceful and fulfilling life possible in what little time they had left. At first I was not sure what I had gotten myself into, by taking the internship with Caris Healthcare but Mrs. Calley was extremely supportive and always tried her best to help me any way possible to that I would be able to learn and try many things throughout my internship. Through my internship I got to learn and experience many new activities that I had never imagined myself being involved in. I also got to be involved in a Veteran Memorial Service, in which we honored a patient who had been a veteran and recently passed away. After the Veterans Memorial service I got to go to help out at the Relay for Life event in Milan to help raised awareness and shares with people the types of services that Caris Healthcare offers. Another experience that I got to do for the first time was to attend at Health Fair in Dyersburg, in which I got to meet local residents and explain to them about what Hospice Care is and what types of services that Caris could offer them or the family and friends in need. While at the health fair I noticed how nervous people seemed when talking about Hospice Care and how some people would refuse to talk to you as soon as you mention you were a Hospice Care facility. This lead to the making of the making of the Caris Informational Binder so that we would have a better tool to use, so that we could show people what Caris offer, instead of just telling
