Personal Narrative: My Internship At Washington State University

The semi-autonomous wheelchair moved slowly across the long hallway littered with dusty computers and old electronic devices, successfully avoiding collisions.

Prior to my internship at the Intelligent Robotics Lab at Washington State University, I did not have any experience conducting university research or project-specific technical knowledge. However, with all the gusto a 15-year-old could muster, I dived into my project simultaneously learning advanced software languages such as ROS and SLAM while making progress on the project.
Barely a few days into my project, Professor Taylor mentioned he was leaving to New York for 10 days for a robotics conference. Speechless at first, I knew I had to find a way to make progress. Facing numerous

OSU Football Coach Woody Hayes once said, "You can never pay back, so you should always try to pay forward. " When one receives a generous act, they are often prompted to reciprocate the kindness, or “Pay It Forward.” FIRST regularly grants FRC team 3324, The Metrobots, opportunities to experience STEAM, making it our desire to give others similar opportunities by “STEAMing it Forward.” Our Team When a small group of students founded The Metrobots in 2010, we faced a lack of proper tools, mentors, funding, community support, and practice space. Additionally, as our team comprises students from Metro Early College High School, a STEM school composed of students from 27 different Central Ohio school districts, transportation became an issue.…

As a first time student attending Spokane Falls Community College, I honestly thought that the only buildings and areas of campus involving my class schedule would be of importance. Little did I know that one room I would encounter would become my safe haven. I remember the first day stepping out onto campus and all I saw was a giant riddle waiting to be solved so many parking spaces, buildings, rooms, classes, and students. The anticipation bubbling up inside of me was exciting and rooted with a little nervousness. I was searching for place to keep me focused on my goal of being a successful student, a place to refresh between rigorous lectures.…

I m originally from Secaucus New Jersey, I have moved to Houston during my senior year of college. I didn’t know any university during that time because I was still new to Texas. But as time passed by, people would always gave high remarks and praised Sam Houston State University in Kingwood High School. As graduation grew closer and closer; I decided that I will apply to SHSU but sadly I became very ill and required to get my colon removed due to having over 100 cancerous polyps. As time passed it took me a year to finish 3 surgeries and I was on the road of recovery.…

My primary thoughts towards Gordon College were created during a prospective student day. It turned out to be a negative experience that created a pessimistic view of this school and carried on my cynical view of Christians. It’s important because had I continued with my previous bias I would have attended a secular college which may have been a positive experience but would have definitely lead to a drastically different life.…

Engineering Discourse as Compared to the Amish: Literary Merit of Technical Writing Technical communication is one of the fundamental literate activities of the engineering field. The skills and literacy involved in coding and building robots is spread across many divisions of engineering, whether it be mechanical, electrical, aerospace or an undecided major in the STEM field. To help introduce the necessary tools of inscription and the inscription process of programming a robot in both the academic and professional settings, the University of Central Florida mandates that all students take an Intro to Engineering course where they learn to read, write, and think like an engineer. However basic it may seem, one of the learning outcomes of…

TERMES Project Graduate students at Harvard have an interesting approach to incorporating robotics in the construction industry. Many scientists have always suggested looking at nature when trying to find elegant and effective solutions to problems present in our lives. One such problem is the necessity of an overseer with large-scale projects. These managers are a large cost to projects because of their expertise and skills. Their ability to direct precisely and solve problems on the fly makes them an expensive but needed asset to a construction team.…
