Personal Narrative: My Internship At Eva K. Bowlby Public Library

Improved Essays
This semester, I continued my internship at Eva K. Bowlby Public Library. However, this semester, my internship was a paid internship. I mainly worked in the Literacy Department this semester. Last semester, the two directors of the Literacy Department left their positions, so the Library Director took applications to fill their spots. However, she only found one person suitable for the job. Because of this, she asked me if I would want more responsibility within the library. I accepted the position as Assistant Director of the Literacy Department. My new responsibilities for this semester included helping the Literacy Department run smoothly and covering when the Director was not available. I also continued to tutor the children and continued doing an outreach program at the Open Arms Drop-In Center. …show more content…
On Mondays, I would work with a young student who was in Pre-kindergarten. I worked with this student last semester as well, but the plan that I had for his work changed. In his school, he was learning how to write his name and how to trace lines. As extra practice, I would write his name in dotted lines and he would have to trace over them. He also was learning how to write his name on his own, so we practiced that as well. I also like to include activities based on what he is interested in. For example, he is very interested in dinosaurs. I try to include dinosaurs in most of the activities that I do with him. For example, to help with counting, we do connect-the-dots activities. I make sure that each connect-the-dots that we do has at least one dinosaur in it. We also read a book which is centered around counting the dinosaurs on each

Introduction My last semester at Middle Georgia State University as an undergraduate student was filled with a wonderful opportunity to intern with the Bibb County Sheriff Department. My internship experienced was supervised under the leadership of Cindy Gresham, the executive assistant of the agency. Historically, social control in Bibb County was maintained by two separate entities, the Bibb County Sheriff Department and the former Macon Police Department. There were multiple attempts to consolidate the two agencies in efforts to decrease the amount of tax payer dollars allocated to public service and to increase the effectiveness and efficiently of their service performance.…

Last October I participated in the Dartmouth Native Fly-In Program and while I was visiting I made a trip to the third floor of the Dartmouth library. I remember this experience quite well because out of all the wonderful memories I made on that trip, this was the one experience that had the greatest impact on me. I remember walking into the library where old, frail books lined the walls with dark, mahogany bookcases stretching high. There were antique lamps on the desks that let off just enough light for one person to study under and floors that creaked loud enough to draw attention to my friends and I. We finally reached the center of the library where I saw a bronze Native American sculpture that I recognized from a museum I have visited many times here in Oklahoma.…

An internship is normally a work task a student completes after a series of classes to gain a degree in a particular field they think they’ll love, whether they still love it after they’ve completed that journey is based upon a multitude of criteria. Luckily, I have found that I quite enjoy fashion and working in retail throughout this internship at Dress Barn. Occasionally students find that what they thought they were getting into, is actually completely different than what they expected. Especially when reading about a profession on paper versus seeing it up closer in real life. When I started college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study or achieve with my life.…

It was the twenty-third of October in the year of 2014 at exactly 2:15 P.M. the day was so far very beautiful as I went to Lamar’s University’s Geology building in room 101. When I walked in, it looked like a lecture room that I would have expected to see most of my college life. It bolstered my anxiety for college to new heights as I became worried about my future; I prayed that this presentation that Dr. Beth Anderson was doing would help me feel positive or “Thinking Optimistically” for my life here at Lamar University. By the time, I had found a place to sit in the lecture room, which had rows of seats in front of me that were in what I call “Stairwell Formation,” the lecture rooms doors began to close. This gave me the signal that the presentation was about to begin, as I waited to see what was going to happen next I looked around the room to see who the rest of the audience was.…

As I walked into the small building, that in fact looked very enormous at the time, I began to anticipate every answer I would give to the person who interviewed me, so that to them, I would at least seem prepared. Although I had practiced my interviewing skills that very morning, I felt anxious and worried. Not knowing what to expect, many different scenarios ran through my mind, all of which weren't making my situation any better. Questions after questions were asked, all which seemed impossible for me to answer, and I felt as though I blew the whole thing. After the interview, many days passed by, and I had convinced myself that I did not get job.…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time.…

A few days before my senior night attending Cimarron-Memorial an event was held for all senior graduates on campus. Family and friends were invited to an event to gather around and converse about special events coming up and discussions with students about their accomplishments. A microphone was passed around and we were scared to say a few words, if any that we wanted to share. I had no intentions of saying anything, as I usually tend to opt out of any self- acknowledging or appraisal in front of large groups as thee is always a chance of giving a wrongful self-absorbed impression, which I find not becoming of a working professional.…

As an intern at The Duval County Courthouse, I’ve learned so much about the legal profession. Initially when I started this internship, I did not know what to expect. I had a friend who completed the internship before me, and she spoke very highly of her supervisor and her overall experience there. On my first day at the courthouse, I was very nervous and instantly became intimidated by the extensive collection of books. For instance, I came across multiple books from The Florida Supreme Court that were written in 1846.…
