By the time I received the email announcement that University of Michigan Health System diagnosed me with Acquired Dyscalculia, I felt like sinking into a bottomless glacial. It was on way home back from Thailand, where I went to support the education at Vieng Neua Primary School as a volunteer. I was afraid, indeed, that the dyscalculia—a name that I had not heard before and a disease I was totally not familiar with—would jeopardize and ruin my study and life.…

Back on land, we practiced campsite activities like building a fire, setting up a tent and campsite cooking. Every field of medicine is extremely important in its own way and that fascinates me but one of the best days of my life was the day that my nephew was born on April 9, 2014. It was such a beautiful, breathtaking experience. A life, no, a baby breathing in oxygen for the first time; the sounds of their screams throughout the hospital room. The light illuminating on their pale pink skin, it's something that I'll never be able to forget. I knew that some people would've been horrified at someone delivering a baby…
