I, personally, took an interest in basketball in the sixth grade and it grew from there. In sixth and seventh, I played in parks and recreations. Then in eight, ninth, and tenth grade I played for our school. Eighth and ninth grade we had undefeated seasons and in tenth grade we only lost one game. We lost that game because we were playing the Leonardtown girls for a third time. As always it is hard to win against a single team three times in one season. This year I would like to contribute to a winning basketball season, win the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference championship, the Regional championship, and possibly

What we have adapted to and think are normal look very weird to others who haven’t seen people doing things like this. Such as someone who has never shaved before would think that is very odd to shave your beard. Or someone who has never seen a drive threw would think it’s weird to have people have food handed out the window. As we think other cultures are weird we have to look at the fact that our culture is weird to others People that have never seen basketball would thing it is a bunch of people running around with a ball.…

Like all children all I ever wanted was to be big and do big people things. I engaged in a few family members that I would look up to and try everything they did. I use to pretend to go grocery shopping and being a parent at times. At the age of eight, I had worn the worst pain ever and that was watching my five, year old brother getting hit by a car while trying to cross the street riding a bicycle that had a loose chain. I remember him trying to get up and get to me, but a few adults that had witnessed the accident had told him to lay down.…

In my freshman year of high school, I began my athletic career in basketball, which was a very familiar sport to me. I can recall when I was younger my sister and I would compete on co-ed recreational teams. The team my sister and I played on was pretty good; we had won first place for our division three years in a row. Not only that, but I was also given the chance to participate in the Jam Session in my seventh grade year of middle school.…

I had prepared all summer and in the preseason, nothing was going to get in my way. Our team was smaller this year and lacked the skill we had in the previous years, but that just meant I was going to have to step up even more. I was totally ready for the season and whatever challenges we would face as a team.…

My summers have always consisted of endless hours in the gym. This past summer between trips across the country with my travel basketball team, in hopes of playing collegiate basketball, I managed to set aside time for a service opportunity. Through a school summer service organization, a group of twelve students and three leaders drove ten hours to the Appalachian South Folklife Center in Pipestem, West Virginia for a week long adventure. We were put in charge to refurbish the child daycare center up the road. My individual job was to sand and repaint the front of the building.…

I used to be a shy and quiet girl but since joining the summer camp I started to socialize and have friends. After two months of learning basketball, I began to like it. Then, I started playing basketball in high school as part of my school’s team and I’ve been playing ever since. It started out as just an activity, and then became a hobby that’s something fun to do but later on, I found that I really like basketball.…
