Discuss a leadership experience you have had in any area of your life: school, work, athletics, family, church, community, etc. How and why did you become a leader in this area? How did this experience influence your goals? I was playing soccer with my friends in my neighborhood just a normal day everything looked as usual. There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…

In my polytechnic life, I acquired the skill of managing relations between people, and developed a capacity to relate and collaborate with different individuals. During a few of my field practicums in child care centres as a student-teacher, discrepancies between colleagues occasionally arose. These include when the teachers encountered miscommunication and lacked clear roles when encountering a difficult situation.…

I’m so sick of sitting in my bubblegum-butt colored living room. It seemed like an awesome decision at the time to paint the hideously textured box I live in for the sake of my “totally unique blogging atmosphere.” Jokes, Melanie, you got jokes. It was a great idea at least until I became a super uninspired shut in, who’s seen two Christmas, and three Halloween specials of The Office in the same week. I need to get out of here.…

I want to talk about something that my parents engraved in me at a very young age, they always mentioned the “blue collar” approach. In my youth I didn’t know what the blue collar approach was, or what it untallied, but it was something that was part of my childhood and continues to be part of my life whether I like it or not. The blue collar approach in my family is simple, it’s the idea that if you want to get something done, do it yourself.…

When I walk into a room full of dogs and cats in kennel it smells. I was just about to dump some trash. Suddenly, I heard a rooster was crowing from the back of nowhere, which amazes me because I never thought of a rooster could be on an adoption list. On the way out of the dumpster, they provide a doorstopper in case a volunteer was locking outside. There are two-outdoors areas where they manage and take turns to bring the dog out to do some exercise and we allow going into the cages and playing with these animals.…

Ever since my sisters and I started a song and dance show when we were kids, I have thought about someday owning my own business. While most of my 9 year-old friends talked of being teachers or astronauts, I was trying to decide if my sisters and I should own our own construction company, or should we start a school of arts for children and teach them to sing and dance. As I matured to the independent age of 14, the tough decision was more whether I would start one of these businesses with my sisters, or go off and start one on my own. As foreign as it sounds that a Native American girl would be thinking of someday being an entrepreneur, witnessing my mother succeed as the President and CEO of her own construction company allowed me to see business ownership as a perfectly viable option for someone just like me. Now that I have completed my AA in Business, I am ready to face the challenges of moving on to a school such as the University of Washington that excels in business, so that I can grow as a student in a dynamic community.…

I have taken away from this course the ability to identify a specific genre that I’m targeting and compose a message so that it’s geared towards that audience in a way that they understand. I’ve learned a concept that I wasn’t familiar with previously, including understanding how to analyze a variety of text, recursive reading, and most importantly research processes to participate in the meaning-making. This is the most significant to me because of my current position in my industry in which I am responsible for taking the vision and purpose of the organization and getting my staff on board easily. Making sure that the employees understand our community by providing clear and concise documentation make it stronger and improve on streamlining processes to make better business…
