Personal Narrative: My Informative Speech

Improved Essays
In order to prepare for my informative speech, I practiced at home with my note cards and PowerPoint slides to make sure they flowed smoothly. I tend to perform quite well in front of people when talking, so being in front of an audience to give a speech did not seem to be a vast deal to me. Even though I do tend to catch some nerves, they never truly show through which is something that my parents say I am blessed with. Once I finished my speech, I felt like I did the best that I could. Although I did have some mess ups with the information that I wanted to get across to my peer audience, I believe that they understood most of what my information was and the points that I wanted to emphasize the most. I did a respectable job of explaining my …show more content…
The audience and peers were surprised about the information that I shared and none of them knew Warren Jeffs, so it was nice to talk and give facts about him since not many knew of him in the first place. This experience was different from my shield speech in many different ways. I believe that my shield speech went smoother than this informative one since it was about me and it wasn't full of facts like the informative one. When it comes to talking about myself, it comes easier than reading a bunch of facts about someone else's life instead. The next time I give an informative speech I will try to make sure that I have all of my facts down ahead of time so that the flow can improve with one another. I could face situations of giving informative speeches in the future many times. Right now I want to become a paramedic, and many times you need to know what you are doing in a certain specific situation. Nevertheless, when training other paramedics and getting the intern hours in, you need to be able to talk through the processes even while you are under that tremendous amount of

I clearly passed messages on what I am going to inform audiences i.e. set speech purpose, and separated speech major parts developing main points. I also attempted engagement with audiences by asking questions to make them feel they are articulated in the conversation/discussion as the vital component. All of these things are my strengths. Certainly, these aren’t enough strengths to make a speech the best. Reviewing self-presented video going through it a few times, I found out supporting materials were missing, sub-points were not clearly mentioned, and proper transitions were not made to maintain the chronological flow of information.…

He gave a speech on capitalisms. The first thing I noticed about him was his clear passion for the topic. It had been a very long and busy day and he somehow got me to listen to every word he spoke.…

After watching my speech on video I recognized several things that beforehand I believed I had done well, and upon watching the speech, did do very well. Firstly was my organization, but mainly my introduction and main points. Both of these had all aspects covered and were easy to notice during the speech. Secondly I thought I did very well with my volume, rate, and vocal variety. These verbal delivery attributes came off very well in my speech and I was very happy to see that I could still execute these aspects.…

A weakness that I have is that I do not know how to say no to individuals that ask me for help since I love to help people. It is important that I learn to say no when helping others gets in the way of me accomplishing my tasks. It is important that I do both, but not when I run the risk of not meeting my deadlines and me staying late hours after work to get my work done. It has not been an easy task saying no, but I am learning to be okay with saying no because it is important that it does not interfere with my responsibilities.…

I would consider myself moderately anxious about public speaking. I remember the first few communication apprehensions I experienced in my personal and work life. With my personal experience, I was at church when I shared a testimony with the bible study. With my work encounter, I had to conduct status updates for two areas during project implementations and testing phases with a large group. In both situations, my heart pounded loudly right before I spoke and when the words came out of my mouth, I felt like I had to speak quickly like Speedy Gonzalez!…

Polished Brief Have you ever wanted something so bad that you thought it was necessary for your life to go on, for me that something was a pet dog. At the age of seven I was begging my parents to get me a puppy for about a year, the conversations usually sounded like this “ Hey mom and dad I was wondering if I could get a puppy this year for my birthday?” and they would reply “ I don’t know son a dog is a huge responsibility, I don’t know if you are ready for this yet.” then I would storm off all angry, because I did not get the answer I was looking or hoping for.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…

Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

Up during my speech specificly the last one, i felt super nervous, but looking back i appeared confident and great body gestures. The one thing that doesn 't surprise me is that in all my speeches i managed to have a great tone of voice and enthusiasm. Personally my strongest performance had to be the persuasive speech, after looking at it i noticed i looked the most confident, my content, my structure, and my transitions were spot on. My weekest performance however was my first speech, i looked so nervous, i had very little content, i was not into the speech, no transitions, and like i said i learned a lot from this…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…
