Personal Narrative: My Informative Speech

Improved Essays
I think my performance for my informative speech went fairly well. My very first speech was a little rough because I was more nervous, but having a speech already done helped me get more comfortable. I swayed and moved my feet more than I thought I was. I maybe saw my eyes move across the room and tried to do the same with my feet, yet just stayed in one general area. I was well prepared, considering I was supposed to present a whole seven days earlier than I actually did. When I started out practicing I didn't spend a lot of time getting ready. I actually didn't start note cards and power point until the night before. I spent that whole night working and got it done ready for the Wednesday. There were seven other people in front of me though. I inside knew I wouldn't go even …show more content…
On Tuesday we didn't do any speeches which made me first for Wednesday a week later than expected. After this long wait, I was really ready just to get it over with. For a week it stressed me out and the first few days I was really nervous but after the first weekend off I really wanted to just present my speech. I was relieved after I was done and just happy I didn't have to wait another day to present. I think something I did well was my facts that I presented. I really was well practiced considering I practiced a lot for a whole week before my speech. I think having all that practice I almost knew exactly what I was going to say and I knew I had everything planned out. I think going off of that, some of the words I was going to say a certain way in my speech changed just by improvising up presenting so I had to come up with new words and ways to say my information. Doing this didn't bug me and I kind of enjoyed it so I think I did that well. At the same time, I think I had to many pauses where I was looking for the words in my head to say. Something that went different in my speech was my video wasn't

I definitely have to change quite a few things to make my performance at least good if not the best in future. Among them, one thing I definitely need to change is “practice” giving a fair amount of time to develop a good memory until it reaches the point of perfectness while presenting or delivering. “Practice makes man perfect”-universal quote triggered into my attention now. I believed I had fairly good voice tone/volume, my non-verbal communication like gestures, body language, and eye contact wasn't bad. Similarly, I used a word fillers approach to cease fast flow of speech delivery to adjust with audiences’ conceiving capacity/ability and keep up the connection.…

My goal was to get up to the podium, give my speech, and use the inflections and tones I intended for the speech. I would say I was pretty successful in doing so. In a few spots I lacked the tone I wanted, but for the most part, and the important parts, like the sarcastic bits, I did use inflection that was necessary. My pacing was a little off at points, but I expected that to happen sooner or later since I was nervous. I also wanted to incorporate rhetoric, without making it an extremely emotional, more a fact based speech, which I feel accomplished.…

I would consider myself moderately anxious about public speaking. I remember the first few communication apprehensions I experienced in my personal and work life. With my personal experience, I was at church when I shared a testimony with the bible study. With my work encounter, I had to conduct status updates for two areas during project implementations and testing phases with a large group. In both situations, my heart pounded loudly right before I spoke and when the words came out of my mouth, I felt like I had to speak quickly like Speedy Gonzalez!…

We didn't have many rehearsals, so that meant I had plenty of work to do own my own which was hard to accomplish without feedback. I got some criticism from my friends, their advice was really helpful. They told me to spend time in a dark room with scary prison noises before rehearsal to get in the mood. Also that I was talking way too fast to have my ribs broken and that I should slow down my sentences. So made sure I tried it in rehearsal and it really helped me.…

Before presenting my speech I went over it a lot to get myself prepared and ready for the day. The morning of, I woke up at 7:30 to continue to practice my speech and I felt very confident when the time came. I also started to try and relax whenever I thought of my speech and made myself believe that it was not as big of a deal as I was making it out to be. I tried to concentrate on my breathing, to calm my anxiety and help the nausea in my stomach.…

Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

After noticing the speaker’s confidence during the speech, it became clear that his calmness and ability to speak clearly, his ability to refer to his notes and to use the power point at the same time and also his ability to ensure he was the source of the information he was giving made his delivery good. This informative speech could have been improved with more body movement during the transitions and a good eye contact with the…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…
