I worked at Ahead with Horses at Sullivan Canyon for my community service. Ahead With Horses is an organization that helps many different disabled people, mostly kids, to help them overcome some aspects of their disability. Ahead With Horses throws many different activities like fairs and parties that many of the clients attend. They have a “horse show” where the kids walk around on the horses and sit in different places on the saddle. Ahead with Horses goal is to help disabled, disadvantaged and special-needs children by providing developmental therapy, education and recreation through horseback riding.…
My own riding career thus far had been a roller coaster ride, tendency to second guess myself battled continually with my natural instincts. Over thinking things led me to over riding, and my mixed signals led my horse to produce ignorance. My consistence hesitation caused my horse and I to become mentally stuck. Each lesson was an interminable cycle of frustration, never reaching nirvana. Riding requires both horse and rider to become one.…
I’m working on convincing my dad that i need a new horse. And I have valid reasons for one my horse is getting old and lame. Rodeo We had been in Weatherford, Texas for almost 8 months. Coming from rural California we were no strangers to rodeo. Just a few weeks back the wife and I had attended the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo with our 5 year-old son, Dylan. I asked Dylan, “so what do you think?”…
My first position is my house because you are relaxed and focus and my house is quiet and peacful so there's no noise and im not distracted like if i was somewhere where there is alot of noise and stuff to get me distracted like games and stuff like that thats just me personally i get distracted alot i need to be some where that's quiet to help me be on task. My second position is the library becaeuse first and foremost there is not talking in the library so it's originally quiet and that's what i like because alot of people function more when there's peace and quiet and some don't they just like the noise to do there work but i personally think there should be quiet while doing work.…
It was a crisp January day and I was on my way to go ride a new horse named Zeke that I found online. I had been looking for a new horse for months. I had become very impatient and lost the hope of finding the perfect horse. To be honest, I did not want to go see Zeke at all.…
Talent helps, but it isn't what makes you great. Being a great rider takes years of practice and you never stop learning. Being a horse owner is extremely physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding and goes so far beyond just the riding aspect. Horses cost money; a lot of it. My parents have made me work for what I want and because of this, I got my first paying job at fourteen years old.…
As you will learn, this summer, for me, has been a time of learning responsibility. Ever since I was little, I longed to own a horse and a barn. After years of wishing, I achieved my childhood dream and brought my own horse to my own barn. The beginning of my road to responsibility consisted of saving enough money to buy my first horse, Chance.…
Part one From my mid-term evaluation by my supervisor (Wayne Harris) I have learned that I am doing a great job here at Elizabeth City Pasquotank County Economic Development Commission. My job here at the internship is to build an accurate database of residential home sales in Pasquotank County. I also have done street survey on downtown vacancies. My strongest asset is that I am very punctual, reliable, and able to handle complicated data searches.…
Faith is the belief in something greater than us one can put full trust, confidence, and reliance on when difficult times arise. I was raised to be involved with church activities to maintain my spiritual life; additionally my faith grew dramatically when my cousin deceased and gave me an overview of what I wanted to pursue my career as. When I was a child, my parents encouraged me to always be as loving and caring as I could be, not for personal gain, but to be benevolent to the people around me. I was raised with two loving parents, Mario and Rebeca, along with a younger brother, Mario and older sister, Ana.…
Most people think that what I do for a job is drudgery. Every Sunday morning, I head off to work, where my routine starts by sitting behind a desk and checking my schedule to see how many lessons I have for the day. I fill out a list with the horses my students will be riding, going person by person, indecisively flipping from the horse list over to the rider list to examine their names, like it will help me decide. I also look at the list for when I have a lucky slot with no one scheduled in it, which allows for a break in a busy day.…
Have you ever wanted to just give up on someone? Did they make you angry or upset? Well my horse did exactly that when he threw me off and broke my wrist. I was so angry and upset at him, I just wanted to get rid of him. I didn’t work him for 3 months and had to retrain him under saddle.…
I finally wake up and I was in a hospital bed. I had a neck brace on and equipment’s hook to me. I was thinking wow what just happen? “Dad, let’s go for a horseback ride!” I said it was finally summer break.…
Our great nation has an abundance of popular, historic spectator events in which innumerable people attend such as the Super Bowl, World Series, and the US Open. Explicitly, on the first weekend in May, Louisville, Kentucky hosts one of the most traditional events in history. Dating back to 1875, the Kentucky Derby brings in about 170,000 people a year. This past year, I had the privilege of being one of those 170,000 people at Churchill Downs attending the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks.…
