Personal Narrative: My High School's Student Council

Improved Essays
For the past four years I have been deeply involved in my school community as a leader on my high school’s Student Council.
In ninth grade I primarily helped to plan pep rallies for Student Council’s Homecoming and Snowcoming. After reelection that May, I formed the Public Relations Committee and created a student life website that organizes teacher web pages, connects students with tutors, and advertises events. As treasurer my junior year, I curated data about all the events that Student Council had put on in the past four years. This aided Student Council in increasing its profits and to purchase two water bottle filling stations for the school.
As a senior, I won the election for president of Student Council on a platform of expanding Student

Looking back on it, on how I got to where I am. I don't know how i did it, when you run into something ,with the power to knock you down- you get back up! I've considered myself a sort of mellow guy, but I can be very intense. It's funny because you can't tell by looking at me. Most people say they can't read me, but I think i am a fairly simple guy.…

Although my high school years are mostly defined through academic success, I would have to say my most meaningful achievements came through the North Carolina FFA. This national organization provides me with countless opportunities to showcase my leadership abilities in my school, community, and state. Obtaining the positions of Vice President and President of my high school FFA chapter has had an enormous impact on my life. These positions led to serving on nominating committees, planning community events, attending leadership conventions and conferences, and participating in a state-qualifying parliamentary procedure team. It was these experiences that gave me a passion for public speaking and Agribusiness.…

When I was in High School, I performed as Beta Club president for two years. While president, the Beta Club complete many project including a donation to Heifer International. How we were going to raise donations was left to decide between myself and the rest of the Beta Club officers, so all final decisions and deadlines were mine to decide. During the semester, we held an event where classes competed in games against each other, and the winners won so much money to help them win the prize.…

Serving on the university homecoming committee I aided in planning a week long of events to celebrate K-State’s 100th homecoming celebration. This experience taught me about planning large-scale events that are attended by thousands of people. My term as a member of the Student Governing Association has exposed me to planning formal meetings and lecture events. In all three positions I was required to work in different environments often preforming various roles in order to ensure successful…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

I graduated from Hobbs alternative high school in Roby Texas, in 1997. The alternative school was for students who had been in trouble or for girls who were pregnant and needed to finish school a little sooner or at their own pace. I was not a trouble maker, nor was I pregnant. The school was offered to me as an alternative to spending another year in high school because I did not have enough credits to graduate. I had move between North Carolina and Texas in high school and did not have enough credits to graduate in Texas as where in North Carolina I did.…

During my high school career I have been actively involved within my school’s community through Mini-THON, school newspapers, SADD, and part time employment. Mini-THON has been predominant throughout my high school experience; I have been an active member of the Mini-THON committee for the past three years, following the footsteps of my grandparents, Gary and Millie Christ, who served on the Four Diamonds Advisory Board for over two decades. Being a part of this committee includes organizing fundraisers, and preparing and decorating for the annual Mini-THON. These tasks work toward having a special night that honors the Four Diamonds. The Four Diamonds Fund is dear to me, as many members of my community have been diagnosed with childhood cancer.…

This school year I was elected to represent my school as my Associated Student Body Treasurer, as an elected official I have the opportunity to help make decisions for our school. This year as well as last year our ASB team has helped making our school a more accepting place for the LGBTQ community. We have defend the decision to remove gender roles as well as royalty from our homecoming court. Even through the backlash from individuals about us uprooting traditions, as a team we have stood by our decision. Sitting on the hard track with my committee around me watching the fireworks burst above me while the tears are rolling down my face, I finally realize that all the work was worth it. The thought of being the reason behind a glimpse of happiness within someone’s life has always been a motivating factor within my own. During my sophomore year of high school I was given the opportunity to join student government and was placed in the special programs committee. While in this committee I worked with six other girls to plan and execute events for the student body as well as the entire community of Rocklin. Knowing that the stress of planning and pulling off these events was providing so many people with lifelong memories made it all seem worthwhile.…

When I first arrived at Sanderson High School I was fundamentally flawed in my approach to academics. I was ignorant of how much importance there was in my level of focus and effort. Although my mind was sharp my will was lacking, I still had the mindset that homework and studying weren't top priorities but more something to do with spare time. I would do poorly and then spend much time reflecting why I didn't get an A in an easy class or at least a B in an honors class. Now my GPA is rising exponentially in comparison to when I first arrived.…

For four long years I felt as if my high school was in a world unto itself. I spent that time interacting with an extensive amount of groups, or “cliques,” and getting to know what they do. Through my experiences, I realized what made this “subculture” high school run like it did. High school is an incredibly dynamic time for people, and I had changed dramatically from my freshman to senior year. Like many, my freshman year was quite awkward, as remnants of my middle school self remained with me.…

It was not until my junior year of high school that I decided to take a leap of faith and run for Junior Class President.
