Being a member of my high school’s dance team is something that will forever have an impact on my life. While teaching me how to be disciplined, refined, and to be relentless in the pursuit of being the best dancer I could be, it provided once in a life-time opportunities. I have danced down main street Disney in the Varsity Spirit Spectacular Parade, and was a member of the first dance team in our school’s history to ever place at the WACPC State Dance Championships. But, what these accomplishments won’t tell you, is that dance gave me a forever family.

As part of an old high school tradition, hundreds of students crowded into a dimly lit cafeteria and danced until the air hung heavy and sweat glistened off every square inch of exposed skin. The weather was moderate with the temperature ranging from the high sixties to the low seventies. I could smell the damp earth covered in mowed grass mixed with the fallen leaves of the White Oak that embodied the start of fall. The weather was perfect for tennis.
