Personal Narrative: My High School Spanish Class

Writing Sample Without a doubt in my mind the best class I have taken in the past two years of my academia was my high school Spanish class. I developed a very good relationship with my instructor Sr. K, that was probably the biggest reason it was my favorite class; However, the way his class was stuctured and how he taught contributed it to being my favorite class in the last two years. We would always start the day with a class plan so everyone would know what was going to take place in class and the next. Sr. k was very detailed in lessons and we also did several examples to new lessons. I very seldom ever became confused with a lesson and if I did he was always open to talk to anyone in the class personally about questions or just for …show more content…
The other really great thing about the class was Sr. was very direct, he would tell you what you needed to do and be straight forward with us as well. He cared about students but he took no pity in lazy student’s grade. Nonetheless, he would still engage in discourse and understood that some people didn’t care enough for good grades in his class but that didn’t make him the least bit hostile he would just simply let the student know that they were not going to do well in his class if they didn’t try to become better. Now I know this won’t apply to a college course but Sr. always had snacks for his students, mainly his Spanish four students. We got a lot of snacks while we were working on a difficult translation in class. I might of digressed a little to much but thats some of my honest opinions on what made his class so enjoyable and a positive learning environment. I understand that no every teacher teaches the same just like no every student learns the same, reiterating what I spoke to you in class is I really appricate you as a professor going the extra mile to understand us students. That coalesces with the positive environment that Sr. K provided his students, your already making your class a positive environment for me to

Class began with you carefully scaffolding our social interactions by showing us respect, letting us free write, gradually letting us edit and read each other 's work and finally actually writing together. I appreciated that you opened the classroom space by getting to know each other and we will end the class by eating and enjoying each other 's hard work. I think it 's really nice closure, and I don’t think most students realize that they need it. Learning is a growth process, it opens you up to others and I think it is such a loss to walk away from each other without saying thanks for working with me, it was nice to get to know you. Thanks again for all of your careful planning and sharing your expertise.…

The success in homework, was given in motivation, monitoring, and demonstrating what to do. I thought the teachers did a quite well with opening their classrooms as a open and positive atmosphere. You could see the students really open up and ask questions. They were given the attention that I felt was lacking in the classroom for them and they really needed to be given positive feedback and praise for understanding the material. There are certain skills that students need in order to complete homework and if they didn’t understand it in class, they wouldn’t be able to complete it at home.…

The first week or so was pretty lonely sitting in a classroom waiting for people to show up but finally they did! I definitely started out by getting to know them and being friendly. I had great students in my tutoring sessions they were all a lot of fun and happy to be there. I have taken the classes that I was tutoring so it was nice to help the other students get familiar with the classroom. I personally know can be overwhelming to walk in to a big classroom full of unfamiliar bones, models, and equipment but I enjoyed helping them get comfortable and learning from the classroom.…

The only problem with him was he was to nice to some students that clearly tried to slack their way through the class. On multiple occasions it seemed like a few students would just copy each others notes and turn them so they would get a good grade. The way to solve this would be everyone would have to do through research on a specific topic covered during class and the next day we should have all went over it as a group. This way everyone would do their own fair share and would learn better in the…

I think that the relaxed atmosphere of our class is partly to blame for how our classmates and teachers reacted. I would have liked to record a reaction from a more stern teacher like Dr. Brack to see if the reactions from our classmates would be different in a more serious atmosphere. I do not believe that race or gender played a part in the reactions of my classmates because all of my classmates were laughing and as I explained earlier, our classes have very diverse demographics. I do think age played a huge part. If our classes had more older students than younger students then the reactions might have been a bit more negative and stern.…

He made the courses less boring and more sarcastic with “one line jokes” (Edmundson, 1997) to entertain the audience. Whereas other teachers with drier curriculum and less than desirable class work, get graded lower on the student evaluations. Edmundson stopped this from happening to him by taking himself out of the classroom and putting himself vicariously into his student’s minds. He found that the students are not really here to learn. Yes, they are spending money on their education; but they want to enjoy their time at the University as well.…

The conference was by far the best experience this semester because of the wonderful people I met and the memories I made there and it may not have been possible without your help. The skills I learned in class, I applied and I had a wonderful time. I also learned the importance of being focused on the look of my documents. In every project I did for all my other classes I tried to make sure that the margins were correct and that it looked presentable. I learned that a lot of points can be given for having something that looks good.…

I learned the importance of the school 's administration and just how many interactions they have with classroom teachers. The district did an excellent job with incorporating their higher level staff into the classroom. This took away much of the anxiety that I had towards my future bosses being ranked so much higher than myself. I tutored students in a after school program and they recepted my help thoroughly, this boosted my confidence that this is what I am meant to do with my life. The most entertaining aspect of my sixty hours was volunteering to go on a field trip with my class.…
