Personal Narrative: My High School Experience

My unique high school experience has made me who I am today in the way it has molded me into a greater leader and student than I ever imagined I could be. Upon my entrance into high school I really had no clue who I was as a person and the amount of potential I had. I hardly knew anyone but my peers and teachers were so supportive and helpful it was almost hard to not prosper; I was able to learn how to convey my ideas within group settings in order to set plans in motion, and make the school a better place. I learned how to handle stress from classes, clubs, and work all while maintaining excellent grades and test scores and I believe these things have helped me learn that nothing is impossible and hard work seriously pays off. I love to learn and apply my knowledge in every situation possible and I take classes I don't need to at all in order to open up my horizons and learn even more than is expected. I took Latin because I was bored with Spanish and I took AP art history because I was tired of walking around museums and having no clue what I was looking at. I cannot stand not knowing things and I love this about myself, a day without learning is one that is wasted in my eyes. I am also unique in the opportunities I have been given, one of them which is very important to who I am today. Last year, I was chosen as one of the few students to attend the Naval Academy summer seminar as a potential candidate and I thoroughly believed that was where I was going to end up. Attending the seminar was a chance of a lifetime and it helped me learn that a golden gate to some is not that to others; I was able to weigh my choices and realize that money wasn't everything for me and it made my dream of wanting to become a microbiologist clearer than ever. Making this choice was one of my biggest accomplishments because I was able to look at things from another perspective and grow as a

The hardest thing I’ve ever went through? Let me take you back to almost three years ago to a very cold Thursday morning in January. I was sitting in history class when suddenly something very strange happened; the announcement speakers came on. To most people it would seem like it was a very typical day to day event to listen to announcements; but at my school announcements were rarely ever said. My classroom got completely silent; to the point where you could have heard a pin drop.…

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

Before high school, I always thought I was an average student, but when I transitioned into high school, people started to point out that I had potential. I began to work harder than I had ever before and I began to accelerate in every course. This never took a toll on me till the tenth grade, when my mental health started degrading. Anxiety was my first foe. During the beginning of the tenth grade, I had set high expectations for myself and it began to affect my life greatly For instance, after finishing the test, I would think about just one specific question that I thought I completed wrong.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

My high school experience at High Point High School began as frustrating then it became positive. Being academically independent, since elementary school, I did not feel that high school was going to be a major difference, but I did not take into consideration of a new ambiance with new challenges. One thing that remained the same was the fact that I was always reserved and I stayed to myself. I thought that in high school I was going to be able to leave my shell and be more outgoing. I was wrong, I am still shy and still quiet, but high school did teach me valuable concepts that I will carry on through college.…

My freshman year was one of my craziest school year. It came from fake hall passes, to skipping in the restroom, and acting all bad by getting referrals. I remember my ap secretary always used to call me “Diablo” just because i always got in trouble and she said i used to drive her crazy. I just never cared about the consequence of skipping so much, good thing I never got caught. Meeting new friends and new attitudes and a little more of responsibility and to be honest waking up so early every single morning was not that fun.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

These last four years have been a whirlwind for me. Between school, gymnastics, extra curricular activities, work, cheer, and many more activities I have to say I have been very busy throughout my high school years. There has been ups and downs, yet through all of them I have learned valuable lessons that I will take with me as I go off to college. I tried to challenge myself each year in a different way, being able to look back and reflect on them is a great way to see how far I’ve come since that first day as a freshman on crutches nervous as all get-out to attend Auburn Riverside High School. Freshman year, I started off the first month of school on crutches, and the following two months in a boot.…
