I Corinthians 9:24 states, “Do you not know that those who run a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you obtain it”. This Bible verse has had significant meaning to me particularly while running track in high school. Track is a sport that requires hard work, determination, speed, focus, and self-discipline.…
As part of an old high school tradition, hundreds of students crowded into a dimly lit cafeteria and danced until the air hung heavy and sweat glistened off every square inch of exposed skin. The schools that began the tradition of the modern homecoming dance most likely did not expect it to evolve into what it is today; at some point, we, as students, lost the true purpose of the event and instead became preoccupied with image. Even though I would have liked to think that those things did not matter, I still found myself altering my appearance that Saturday night to try and show off the best version of myself. I was not alone; other females joined me amidst a pile of cosmetic products and styling tools, and we had the pictures to showcase…
In high school, there are so many organizations to choose from. From swimming to DECA, football to choir, dance to basketball, and the list can go on and on. I joined the break dance team because it sparked my interest. The only problem with joining the break dance team was that I couldn’t be on the basketball team. I’ve always loved to dance.…
Outside of my academic activities, I have a strong passion for sports and exercise. As a student-athlete for over 14 years, I have learned the value of hard-work, dedication, and determination. Establishing these invaluable attributes early on made it possible for me to become an NCAA Division III lacrosse athlete. Sports dramatically shaped the person I am today and taught me how to step to work in unison with my teammates to achieve a common goal and simultaneously step up as a leader.…
Hi Ms. Pierce, Hope you had a wonderful break and a nice day, The word I would use to describe my break is deciphering because I got a break from dance and school. For example, I was able to sleep to try to avenge the early wakings during school days and early dance practices. In addition to that, I had nothing to be concerned about. Having a break from both school and dance gave me time to think about myself and what I wanted for my future; besides, I was able to unwind. The time I had was crucial to me because sometimes in the middle of all the activities in the year I have no time to think.…
While everyone has their own personal opinion on many different subjects, I do not completely agree with your argument that banning heading the soccer ball in youth soccer would be beneficial to children. This is a very controversial topic although you claim that it is totally uncontroversial. A lot of emotion is expressed rather than information and not enough true data is included to make it true that this is a totally uncontroversial topic. Banning heading in youth soccer because they are not coordinated or strong enough, it increases the risk of injury to the player and opponents, it detracts nothing from the game but actually improves, and although heading the ball isn 't like a helmet to helmet scenario doing it repeatedly makes it dangerous…
Academic Writing Reflection The first essay that I have chosen to reflect upon is one of my first ones in Freshman year. I decided to pick my first essay that I wrote in high school so I can see how much I have grown. Going into freshman year, I was really bad at writing essays and I hated doing them.…
Track and field has been the highlight of my high school life. The social aspect, the large assortment of events from which to choose, and the people I met are things I will always treasure. I especially loved the fact that there was always a place for everyone. If you weren’t too quick, then discus was your event. If you could build up quick bursts of speed, long and triple jumps suited you.…
I have learned how to format an argumentative essay and organize my writing during this quarter. My writing process keeps me organized and guides me to improve. I like to jot down notes on a topic or create an outline for the beginning stage of my writing. I like to take my time on my writing and proofread my work. Some strengths that I bestow include creating a plan for a certain topic.…
Going to State for cross country is one of my favorite things that I have done in my athletic high school career. It took hard work to get there and when we finally did that it was eventful and fun and was one of the best trips that I have ever had. It started out way back in June when a group of girls got together and went for a run. At that time we only ran about 3-4 miles or so, but by the middle of the cross country season we were running up to 6 miles everyday. We trained all throughout the summer increasing our mileage every week so that by the beginning of the season were were ready to race.…
As stated before in our first lecture, dance is a living and fleeting art form. I believe that dance is a living art form because it is a three-dimensional picture to art. What I mean by this is that, art is normally seen on walls or as sculptures, but dance is an amazing opportunity to view art while in movement. If you are anything like me, when I look at a painting of two people or many, I always wonder what it would be like to see them actually dancing, singing, or even laughing. By watching dance, it is my living art form.…
I remember my days in high school like it was yesterday. My freshman year I didn’t really know anyone at my school because I was new to the area. Once the school year got started I began to make friends and to be known around the school. So as most people say now I look like a basketball player, back in my younger days I used to play all sports like basketball, football, and baseball. So I had decided to try out for the basketball team.…
Have you ever been blamed for something you didn’t do? I was in grade one. Doodling around like the kid I was in PE glass. The sky was clouded and only partial light passed through. There was a classmate, dare I not say friend, that was picking on me.…
“Blood, sweat, and chalk; never tears.” These words have guided my gymnastics career throughout high school. Pretty much starting from the beginning, I had to re-learn many skills and tricks that I had lost after quitting gymnastics for dance lessons in fifth grade instead of joining the competitive team. I lived for gymnastics and I still do. Walking into the gym always boosts my mood and gives me a rush of determination.…
Everyone has experiences that shape them as a person. Some have negative impacts, some have positive impacts. Regardless, they have made people into who they are. When faced with obstacles it is easier to give up, but the only way to achieve success is to overcome them. One of the experiences that had a profound impact on who I am is when I almost lost my spot on my cheer team.…
