Personal Narrative: My High School Career

What are you good at? I’m good at working with others, helping looking at all aspects of what I’m studying, reliability, being a strong-hard headed person when need be, having a big heart for animals, and motivating others as well as myself sometimes.

What challenges have you overcome?

I’ve overcome depression, abuse, and my high school career slowly downfalling. For each of these struggles I pushed through and came out on top and learned that no matter how hard it may seem there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel and someone at your side and in my case that would be my loving mother. For example my high school career started out great my freshman year but it started to slowly down fall and then went downhill and my grades dropped and by the end of my sophomore year I had missed all together a year of my high school. I had went into my Junior year with 4 credits but I decided to take my life into my own hands and turn it around by joining a program called the ALC, Alternative Learning Center, and ever since I have joined I’ve only missed 5 days of school and I turn in 100% of my assignments with 85% or higher grades on them! I am focused on graduating on time and to go to college to UW Fond Du Lac in the fall.

Looking back on it, on how I got to where I am. I don't know how i did it, when you run into something ,with the power to knock you down- you get back up! I've considered myself a sort of mellow guy, but I can be very intense. It's funny because you can't tell by looking at me. Most people say they can't read me, but I think i am a fairly simple guy.…

I have personally grow as an individual since I took my first steps into high school, from only worrying about school to becoming more involved in my community. Academics has always and will always be my number one focus, but it will not be my only focus. My only focus fas a freshman was my grades because I did not think I could handle extracurricular activities while maintaining excellent grades; however, I was wrong. As the end of freshman year approached, I decided to try out for volleyball and expand my knowledge and interests, which have sparked my involvement in other extracurricular activities my junior year, joining student council, National Honor Society, and DECA. Student council has prepared me for real life situations and has taught…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

Track and field has been the highlight of my high school life. The social aspect, the large assortment of events from which to choose, and the people I met are things I will always treasure. I especially loved the fact that there was always a place for everyone. If you weren’t too quick, then discus was your event. If you could build up quick bursts of speed, long and triple jumps suited you.…

"I doubt she will ever graduate high school" was a sentence expressed to my family members, it was regarding me. These discouraging words were spoken out of the mouth of my own father. While eavesdropping I overheard this statement when I was in my freshman year, and I believed him. The thought of not graduating replayed in my head throughout the majority of my high school career. For an extensive period of time, that statement prevented me from reaching my full potential.…

“Choose a career that will always be needed,” my economics teacher said. It was 3:50 p.m and I was here, sitting in the lobby of a clinic thinking about everything and nothing at the same time. There were at least thirty-five kids here waiting their turn anxiously. My niece’s name was called and we walked into a hallway filled with medical equipment.…

Though I am not even half way through my high school career, I feel as if I can still be a help to those who are just beginning. High school is probably the most important part of your life that you are responsible for in our teenage years, so it is important not to mess it up. There are a few concepts that I have figured out by myself that I wished someone would have told me. Those of which include never procrastinate, think about your future, learn how to manage your time, and do not settle for less than your best. My first recommendation is that you don’t procrastinate.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

When making decisions, you don't always know whether or not you've made the right one immediately. I was deciding on which high school I wanted to attend; I chose to go to public school, even though I had previously gone to private school. Why would a kid choose to go from a class of 24 to a brand new school with 1700 kids without knowing anyone? That sounds crazy to me, but my 14 year-old self thought that it would be just fine.…

I remember my days in high school like it was yesterday. My freshman year I didn’t really know anyone at my school because I was new to the area. Once the school year got started I began to make friends and to be known around the school. So as most people say now I look like a basketball player, back in my younger days I used to play all sports like basketball, football, and baseball. So I had decided to try out for the basketball team.…

When I first heard of the $25,000 challenge I was excited yet hesitant. It was definitely a nice change from the previous assignments; however, focusing on what qualities I possess that set me apart from the rest of my peers, deeming me worthy of such a substantial amount of money, still seems wrong. On the other hand, I, being the wonderful student that I am, must put all moral objections to the back of my magnificent mind and get on my high horse to step up to the challenge. One does not have to search high and low to find a good, no, great student. I sport a 4.0 GPA and have never made below a 95 in any of my high school courses.…
