A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

“Choose a career that will always be needed,” my economics teacher said. It was 3:50 p.m and I was here, sitting in the lobby of a clinic thinking about everything and nothing at the same time. There were at least thirty-five kids here waiting their turn anxiously. My niece’s name was called and we walked into a hallway filled with medical equipment.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

High school is probably the most important part of your life that you are responsible for in our teenage years, so it is important not to mess it up. There are a few concepts that I have figured out by myself that I wished someone would have told me. Through the duration of my High School career, I have prided myself on my grades, GPA, and overall academic record. I feel they accurately represent my dedication and responsibility as a student. Although having taken many challenging Pre-AP, and AP courses I kept my grades up while participating in extracurricular activities and community service. Class Rank has been the only area that I feel does not accurately represent me as a student. Coming from a graduating class of almost 1,000 students, and a very academically competitive High School, my class rank at Flower Mound might not be equal to what it could be at another school.…

It is very crazy to me to think that we have already been in school for a quarter. For the first time in my life I actually wish that time would slow down. I know people say “I want out of high school as soon as possible,” I think differently. Once you graduate, you have to face the fact that you are an adult now and your parents wont be there to help you as much. The faster you graduate, the faster your out into the real world at college or working.…

During that summer, I was running a lot of miles and competing in local road races almost every weekend. At one of these races, a parent of one of the young runners that I knew approached me to ask how my search for a teaching position was going. When I replied that I hadn’t had any luck as of yet, his eyes lit up. It seems that a teacher at the local parochial school that his children attended had just left to take another job and they were looking for a science teacher for grades seven and eight. He then asked if I thought I’d be interested in applying for the job.…
