Personal Narrative: My High School Career

Improved Essays
As a child, I was always surrounded by encouraging words from family members, close friends, and church members. They always ensured me "You can be anything that at you want to be." But now that I'm a senior in highschool,I’ve come to realize that the statement comes with terms of conditions attached. People don't actually believe this to be true; they loosely throw around the statement without actually reading first. It wasn't until my High School career that I read the terms of conditions. By my eleventh grade year I chose to deny them and strive to be the person that I want to be most, a successful, independent oncologist. Ever since I was young, my Grandmother told me that I was going to have an impact on the world and carry a special

Looking back on it, on how I got to where I am. I don't know how i did it, when you run into something ,with the power to knock you down- you get back up! I've considered myself a sort of mellow guy, but I can be very intense. It's funny because you can't tell by looking at me. Most people say they can't read me, but I think i am a fairly simple guy.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

"I doubt she will ever graduate high school" was a sentence expressed to my family members, it was regarding me. These discouraging words were spoken out of the mouth of my own father. While eavesdropping I overheard this statement when I was in my freshman year, and I believed him. The thought of not graduating replayed in my head throughout the majority of my high school career. For an extensive period of time, that statement prevented me from reaching my full potential.…

Everyone changes at least once during their time in high school. Over the last few years, I have been through a variety of challenges. God has blessed me with an amazing four years of learning; not only just in school, but also in life. One can only make so many mistakes before he or she learns from them. Something in me has always known that I was not typical. In this generation, the typical person would graduate high school and then go on to pursue a two to four year college degree. Up until a few months ago, that was what I thought I was going to do. I thought that I was going to go to a private college somewhere, major in law, come out to be a defense attorney, and spend my days and nights hauled up in a courtroom somewhere. I believed that that was going to be my reality not because I wanted it to be but because I thought it had to be.…

Though I am not even half way through my high school career, I feel as if I can still be a help to those who are just beginning. High school is probably the most important part of your life that you are responsible for in our teenage years, so it is important not to mess it up. There are a few concepts that I have figured out by myself that I wished someone would have told me. Those of which include never procrastinate, think about your future, learn how to manage your time, and do not settle for less than your best. My first recommendation is that you don’t procrastinate.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

These last four years have been a whirlwind for me. Between school, gymnastics, extra curricular activities, work, cheer, and many more activities I have to say I have been very busy throughout my high school years. There has been ups and downs, yet through all of them I have learned valuable lessons that I will take with me as I go off to college. I tried to challenge myself each year in a different way, being able to look back and reflect on them is a great way to see how far I’ve come since that first day as a freshman on crutches nervous as all get-out to attend Auburn Riverside High School. Freshman year, I started off the first month of school on crutches, and the following two months in a boot.…

The memories began flooding my clouded mind as I was walking. 8th grade Billy had already began to distance himself, girls gawking over a new guy every week, and beatings became route. Halfway through I just couldn’t take the constant torture anymore. One day after returning home from another beating I broke down while walking through the door. With mom gone there was no instant alert at the sound of my wails of sorrow echoing through the halls.…
