I had just woken up when I suddenly got a phone call from my parents, saying that my cousin William was coming over to Vancouver. Though I was tired and drowsy, the moment I heard that William was coming to visit, my eyes lit up. I hadn’t seen him for over five years, and though he could be annoying, he was my role model. He influenced me to become the selfless and courageous person I am today. When I received the phone call I still on my field trip in New York. Even though I enjoyed the trip, I couldn’t wait to get home to see William again. All I thought about flying back home was to see him after more than five years of being apart. He went from being the most important person in my life, to a complete stranger. He had no right to destroy my stuff and my room, and that was certainly something he wouldn’t have done before. Tears streamed down my face, and the excitement of seeing him was replaced by anger. I decided to wait until the next day to confront him and express my anger towards his actions. It isn’t your choice of what I should or should not do.” “I know that I don’t have a choice but why did you do this to yourself? You had millions of opportunities in front of you, yet you threw them away as if they were garbage. I thought you were someone better but you’re just a jerk.” As I walked away from him, I could hear him swearing behind me. I walked into my parents room and told them what happened. I made it clear to them that I wanted him out of the house. My parents agreed, and forced him to clean up the mess and to never come back. Since the day he left, I wondered how he got influenced into being such a different person. He was my childhood hero that I looked up to since I was a kid, yet somehow something consumed him, and he was no longer the person I
