Personal Narrative: My Hero's Journey

This story starts out like most would the day I became a freshman. Going to a new school, meeting new people, meeting new teachers it’s not the easiest thing in the entire world. The first two years of my high school career were quite like the battle of Troy, only less bloody. The battle through the first two years of high school felt like forever. My trojan horse was Penta career center using it to get out of Eastwood. Considering the fact that i’m here now I suppose that my Trojan horse worked out pretty well just like in the battle at Troy. When I was nearing the end of my time at Eastwood I was convinced to come to Penta for ITA by my friends. My friends provided only one direction for me to go which turned out to be right direction it was Penta. There wasn’t much that the wind did to carry me to Penta though like the wind did for Odysseus courtesy of Aeolus. Just like Odysseus there had to be something to ruin the journey, but this was by my own doing not others. I didn’t realize just what I was getting involved with. …show more content…
The first few months of being at penta were almost a carbon copy of my first two years at Eastwood. The day my life changed forever is when I met the devil herself wrapped in the most beautiful disguise I had ever seen. This siren is my Ex girlfriend, she was able to suck me in and hold tightly onto me for 11 long months. November 2nd 2016 is the day my life began to take a downward tumble such as Odysseus going through the halls of Tartrus itself. I always kept a hold on my hope that I would one day escape the abusive Siren. The experiences I had with this Siren felt like hell itself, but eventually I was able to find my way although it was a little different from odysseus. I don’t believe that Odysseus ever made it through anything with the help of his wisdom

Joseph Campbell was a scholar who studied ancient mythology for many years. He came up with the idea of the Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey says that all the heroes will come across many processes throughout their journey. Each of the processes gets the hero closer to his/her prize. Perhaps I am not a hero, but I have experienced many things on leaving my home state and coming to a foreign one.…

“No more seafaring homeword for these, no sweat day of return; the god had turned his face from them. ”(lines 953-955)This shows the tragedy that befell Odysseus along his journey where he lost man after man to an obstacle along the way to where he is now and had the complete his journey without his men. His main goal might have to return home to his family but he also wanted his men to return with him but the Prophet Tiresias had said in his prophecy that along the way Odysseus would lose his men,and though he did lose all his men he had tried not to. The Odyssey also teaches that many terrible things can happen on a journey but to keep hope of reaching your destination. Odysseus 's ship is tossed in the ocean, but still he insists that he “will stay with it and endure through suffering hardships” (97). They journey on, and soon Odysseus and his crew face a flesh-eating Cyclops, who eats two men and takes Odysseus captive in his cave. Odysseus develops a plan of escape “with a firm twist of the hands and enduring spirit clung fast to the glory of the fleece, unrelenting” (148). It is with persistence that he is able to overcome another difficulty delaying his success. It would have been very easy for Odysseus to give up after all of these troubles, yet he chose to persevere through them, reinforcing his strength of…

Joseph Campbell, the creator of the hero’s journey, did a lot of research on ancient mythology. He discovered that many heroes travel the same paths to becoming a hero. Campbell decided that heroes come across many challenges that are put into stages and in those stages the hero grows closer to the reward at the end. I am definitely not a hero, but my journey of finding Christ and giving my life to him has absolutely made me into a better person overall. As I look at my journey of finding Christ, I see that it has many similarities to Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.…
