A few years ago, on a class trip, my friends had asked me to ride at least one roller coaster. It was not a large roller coaster, but it made me queasy just looking at it. I was confident that I would be able to go on and enjoy the experience. My confidence quickly evaporated when we began climbing up the roller coaster’s first hill. The ride dropped, and I was screaming so loudly that I could only hear myself.…

Two years ago, my boyfriend and I brought his two daughters to Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ for the first time. We all loved roller coasters, except for the youngest daughter because she had never been on a roller coaster before. I knew that if she did not go on a ride that my boyfriend would have to stay behind her. When we were walking into the park, I continued to tell her that I know she will go on all the roller coasters. She would then respond to me each time with “No I won’t”.…

My friend, Odina, was laughing beside me the whole time; she did not know how worried and anxious I was about this devastating rollercoaster. It is called the Iron Rattler, and it stood at a height of one hundred-eighty feet tall. The other passengers were energized with excitement, anxiety, and fear. I felt uncomfortable getting on the rollercoaster because I thought I was going to die. I thought maybe the rollercoaster would fall…

The ride had begun and we began rising towards the sky in a curve way form with my back printed up against the park giving me the view to only see the ride itself until we reached the top. I got to see the park and the beautiful day and before I couldn’t even breathe another gasp of air before I was twisting and turning intensively. The ride lasted about thirty seconds but, those thirty seconds really were phenomenal. Soon after exiting the ride a huge storm started to brew out of nowhere bringing rain and thunder causing the park to shut down for safety reasons. I was bummed out for a few moments as I walked to the front of the park to reunite with my family when my sister comes towards me and utters "Hey Josh, you know we got season passes right"?…

We are all born on boats, coming from a source of which we know naught, and heading into an oblivion of which we can only imagine. Most of us are delivered onto vessels to live with our families, only leaving once adolescence entreats an independence that necessitates our sailing solo. Others live forever on the same craft, never venturing past that which man has made to separate us from the swirling, unknown waters below. Still others must learn to be autonomous almost at once, for they are set free on the sea only as babes, forced out of circumstance to ride the waves in nothing like a basket like the infant Moses. My juvenescence fell somewhere in the middle of that gamut; I lived on the ship of my family for the first several years…

As soon as we walked into the park I knew I would not go on that ride the jumbo roller coaster that flips upside down at least once in our time spent in the park. As the day flew by, the uncertainty grew in my little 8 year old mind as the rest of my family attempted to convince me to go on the roller coaster. I figured my sister would not go on it either so we could just stay behind with my grandma. But if my younger sister decided to play dare devil, I would possibly consider riding just so I didn’t get shown up by a first grader. We had already been on the standard swings that they have at the fair several times that day and many smaller roller coasters, but nothing like the track that I was sure would be the most terrifying experience…

However, just as I said this the spiritless roller coaster attendant strapped me in permanently ensuring I couldn’t back out. After the attendants strapped everyone in, they did their whole spiel on how we were going to have a great time, but the words muddled in my mind as I was more focused on breathing. The car moved onward and screeched at us as if in warning. Then suddenly the car stopped, I’m pretty sure just to spite us.…
