My grandma has always been a big part of my life, from accompanying my mother on the journey of my adoption to always supporting me. I have always thought highly of my grandma, she continuously puts others before herself and is always helping out in the community some way. With just being the kind, loving person she is, she has majorly impacted my life. My grandma has been through a lot of tough times throughout her life. Before I was born she experienced the loss of a child. My uncle Chris passed away in a motor vehicle accident when he was only 19. She also lost my grandpa, when he had a heart attack in their home. I cannot even imagine how hard it would be to go through what she has gone through. She has pushed through all these difficult times to become the strong woman she is today. Growing up with 5 other siblings, she was always helping out around the house. Her favourite thing to do was help her mother prepare dinner. This was how she found her passion of baking and cooking. Once she started working at the bowling alley, she would make huge portions of food for the restaurant part of the bowling alley. Now, whenever my mother or I are sick my grandma is always there with a giant bowl of her homemade chicken noodle soup. My grandma is constantly cooking or baking, whether the recipe was passed down or it’s an original, I enjoy them all. My grandma has always been caring, patient and dedicated. She puts these traits into her magnificent garden. She has had a green thumb for as long as I can remember. I am out in the garden with her every time whether, it be help plant a seedling, water the plants or help pick the tomatoes. We always sit outside together at her house and just admire all the beautiful plants she has outside her house. I hope to carry these traits and have a beautiful garden just like hers one

When I was in 3rd grade, the only woman who had ever taken care of me passed away due to cancer. My Grandma took care of my mother and I from the time I was born and continued to care for me after my mom moved away. Our lives weren't very luxurious. She worked at Polk Community College as their lunch lady and I never had much; including my own bed. Still, I was never unhappy. I spent many hours after school sitting in the sparsely active cafeteria, while she served the students with a smile on her face. My Grandma was a kind, selfless woman who would never let you go hungry. She instilled in me how important it is to take care of the people around you, so that when you are in need, they will take care of you. It’s cliche, I know, but the world truly did lose a great human being. After her passing, My Mimi, who is my father’s grandmother, took me in and supplied me everything I needed to succeed in life. She worked until she was 70 to ensure we would always be comfortable. The amount of sacrifices she has made for me over the years is simply inconceivable. While she is a natural nurturer, she has always been a proud and…

For one, she always had art hanging up around her house, this made me want to create abstract art at the age of 3. She helped me understand the concept of when people go off to fight for the country, they may not come back. That’s why she taught me to be a good moral people. “I taught my children to be good moral people and to like most people. Don’t give up. When the world seemed like it was spinning out of control, I would always look ahead to the future.” When my grandfather died of Parkinson’s Diseases, my whole family was depressed, and I, still depressed, was thinking about how he was in a much better place and out of pain. She also told me tips on how to relieve stress. I like to go outdoors and enjoy the sun. I relieve stress by working out and doing something I enjoy, I view myself as a creative and active, and I get both traits from my grandma who, ride a horse for the same reasons I work out, and she creates beautiful artwork. “The world is never in your control.” She would say. I have witnessed over five deaths from family or close friends, and yes, it is sad, but I looked ahead and didn’t live in the…
