Personal Narrative: My Granddad's Death

Improved Essays
My Granddad was the most gentle and understanding person that I have ever known. He always brightened up the room wherever he went. When he was around the mood of the house became more cheerful. My Granddad fell victim to Pancreatic cancer, but by time we found out the doctors gave him about three months to live. Through that time, my family and I would frequently visit him and when we would get there he would always be smiling. Unaware of the situation entirely, I always thought that he would get better because he was at the hospital where his cancer could be treated. I never felt like he was scared even though everyone else was, which is something that I will never forget about his character. My Granddads death was certainly an experience

In his last day I read the sports page to him and even though he didn’t respond I filled him on the score from the Mariners game from the night before. Personally, I think watching someone die is the hardest thing to do and I had to witness that as a fifteen year old; I couldn’t even drive yet, I was still a kid. My grandfather’s death was gut wrenchingly hard not only for me but for my whole family but it changed me, and I feel it changed me for the better; I always had this plan that I would one day be working in a hospital and caring for people.…

Gently swaying back and forth in an ancient wooden rocker I listen to the rusty hum of the tired oak thumping the blues. Reminiscing, I recall Granddaddy a towering man with wavy, red hair, freckled fair-skin, and easygoing blue eyes. Consequently, I notice a timeworn black and white photo sitting on a shelf with an image of a smiling, confident child and I consider Granddaddy’s impact on my life. In the picture, a pintsize straw hat sits on top of my curls.…

The 51 bus moves slowly, rumbling wearily down the road, huffing and puffing like my old Grandpa. I don't care. Its a beautiful morning- dappled sunlight streak through the leaves of the Puriri that line the road on either side, and a cloudless sky rolls overhead. I lean against the dirty window, gazing up at the large blue expanse. It blows my mind, because I feel as though there is too much beauty in that beautiful blue oblivion, endless and overwhelming.…

After my grandma’s death, my family had to take a trip to the florist to pick out floral arrangements for her visitation. I wandered out into one of the greenhouses where the succulents were kept. These weren’t bright and pretty like the flowers inside, which made me feel better. There was one box of succulents with thick green leaves and stems that resembled asparagus. It was an intruiging little plant.…

I wake up and I see bright lights, doctors, and cords and wires everywhere connected to different things all over the place and also on me, I then realise I was in the hospital. “Do you remember anything that happened?” I hear one of the doctors ask. “I was on my way home and this car came out of nowhere and ran me off the road” I say mumbling. “Well it sure wasn't an accident, otherwise the car that ran you off the road wouldn't have left” the doctor says while I'm thinking whether or not I should tell him about the call I got.…

Grandfather’s Death We all know that a loved one’s death is always shocking or unexpected. Hearing that a person that you have loved since you were young is shocking and upsetting and no one wants to have it happen. Mix that with the rush to drive from Florida to Colorado, in only 3 days I think it was, was both stressful and uncomfortable to both my parents and my family who I lived with, which were 10 at the time due to visiting family. We saw many nice sights and I got to know my cousins more on the trip which was nice but that week was the hardest and longest week I have ever lived through.…
