Personal Narrative: My Gone Fishing Tattoos

Improved Essays
One tattoo I designed with care honors my grandfather who passed away when I was in the fifth grade. It was for him, and since I can’t always go to his grave very often, this is my small token to him. It says “Gone fishing” with a red, and white fishing bobber on the first G that has my grandpa’s birthdate, and date of death on it; then on the last g has a fishing hook. The I’s are dotted with flowers lastly a heart connecting the gone to the fishing. It is between my shoulder blades and doesn’t reach my neck. The reason it is on my back is so I don’t have to see it and get sad. Michello Delio a tattoo artist said “When the designs are chosen with care, tattoos have a power and magic all their own. They decorate the body but they also enhance the soul.” He was my favorite person and I got a tattoo just for him. My gone fishing tattoo keeps my grandpa, whom I love dearly, close to me.
I pick the saying gone fishing because we would always went fishing together when he was still alive, and the last thing he said to me was I will take you fishing next week. He was the one that got me in to the outdoors like fishing, camping, and walking in the woods. We would go camping at his brothers Dan’s land, we would camp in tents, go fishing in the handmade pond that Dan made, and we would go walking in the woods to go looking for worms

However, this tattoo I can always have with me to remind me of him. This tattoo holds the most magic one can have in this world. My tattoo is to show the love I had for my grandpa who was always there for me but can’t be anymore. With everything he did for me he taught me to treat everyone the same, to worm a hook, what plants to stay away from, and how to find north from moss so I could get back to camp when I was in the wood. Just having this tattoo on me makes me feel he is closer to me and that he is still with me watching over

Even Ancient Cultures Thought Tattoos Were Cool If you have a tattoo today, chances are that someone told you that you were making a mistake putting the ink on your body forever. Tattoos can be seen as; a fashion trend, a commitment to an organized group (such as a military branch or a street gang), a symbolic act of remembrance, a rebellious act by a teenager trying to prove a point to their parents, etc. The lesser known fact behind tattooing however, is that is an art that has been practiced since the neolithic period. Tattoos can be found in nearly every culture across the globe, and many cultures have thousand-plus year histories with the art.…

It’s no secret that many people get memorial tattoos to honor the deceased. For many, it is a way of carrying that special person(s) around with them. These are not normal tattoos since they usually have much thought placed into creating them. I have heard many stories of people that get tattoos commemorating their marriage but then they get an unforeseen divorce. Some people also get tattoos that they regret when they reach a certain age.…

I have a multitude of favorite one-liners, song lyrics, and quotes that I recite on a daily basis that have stuck with me because of their humor and the way I can relate to them. However, these favorite words do not need to be tattooed on one’s body, as these favorites can change so easily. My favorite quote is not currently the same as my favorite quote at age eight, and my favorite quote will be different in twenty years. That is the beauty of being human and gaining new experience. Jamison also details the fact that she “...found [herself] explaining the tattoo to a parade of strangers and acquaintances” (Jamison 458).…

I love all of my tattoos, I will ALWAYS love them. Even if I'm 100 & they stretch, fade, or whatever else simply because of what they represent to me. So everyone else can get over it. If they don't like the way they look or when I'm older think that they are "inappropriate" for an elder to have, then they don't have to look. Period.…
